Default Codes keep coming up

2011 ecoboost 130k miles. I have had several issues in the past week. I have a new code now P2096. I have replaced the cats and I replaced downstream 02 sensor bank two but not with Motorcraft. Could that be the problem.

What other issues are you having? There's a chance they could be related. Are there any other stored codes on the vehicle? Things like exhaust leaks, vacuum leaks, bad fuel or wrong octane, MAF ect could all cause this code. Here is a more detailed explanation.

I have no other code just that one. Truck runs better than ever. I realized this is the other bank, bank 1. I replaced downstream 02 on bank 2. Maybe i should have replaced both instead of just one. Well in any case i ordered 2 motorcrafts downstream and will see what happens.

That's likely your issue then. Let us know if it works for you.

Coincidentally, I had P2098 over the 6-7 weeks, so driver side downstream was reading lean. I was watching the voltage readings and fuel trims on my torque app. The voltage was steady, but low on the driver side downstream sensor and my short term fuel trims on the driver side were well above 0% so truck was lean. I had to remove my intake to get at more coolant leaks and while in there I took out the MAF sensor and sprayed it down again with sensor cleaner. And then I soaked it again. Put it back in and the code cleared a few days later and hasn't returned in over a week now. I won't decry this as "fixed" yet. But maybe.

It's a chase your tail code especially on it's own. Before replacing any other parts I'd wait for a primary code to pop up as this is secondary (symptom) code, if that makes sense. That's what I'm doing anyways.

edit: just realized your an ecobooster. I think there's 3 MAP sensors on your rig...

So you r code was probably thrown by bad MAF sensor?

Well, I'm hesitant to say yes, I've never had an "easy" fix in my life when the money light went on. But it still has not come back and it was on for weeks before the MAF cleaning. I had done it about a year ago, but this time I did actually see a small speck on the sensor before soaking it.

From my reading on P2098 or P2096 on their own as a single code there were several possibilities:

vacuum leaks
exhaust leak before downstream sensor (manifolds usually)
Bad MAF
O2 sensor
Catalytic converter
etc

On it's own it's hard code to solve, a related code would be helpful.

Ok, so get this. I replaced MAF sensor and 02 sensor. While I was replacing 02 sensor I looked at the welding job on the cats done by the muffler shop 2 weeks ago. My dad was a welder so I know what good welding job looks like. This was real crappy. I placed my hand over above section and felt exhaust coming out. This has to be the problem. What do you guys think? A leak pre cat. I called the muffler shop and they will fix it. It has to be this.
