Chirping/Squeaking Noise
Hey All. I own a 2014 F150 with the 5.0L V8 engine. Just the other day out of the blue my pickup started making a chirping/grinding vibration like noise that at first I thought was coming from the passenger side wheel well. Since this noise has started I have taken the vehicle to two ford shops and both thought the problem was with the IWE system. After the second shop I was convinced and let them preform the work. They ended up replacing the check valve and the wheel ends themselves and unfortunately the noise hasn't changed one bit. The tubes are really the only part that werent replaced but I was told they were inspected. I have been trying to pinpoint when the noise happens but it seems to be so random that there isn't hardly a rhyme or reason. The noise is like a squeaking chirping and sometimes if you didn't know better from the cab one would think that the noises are diesel like (sounds like a diesel engine sometimes). What I do know though is that (1) there is no noise when the engine is idling, (2) there is no noise when you put the engine in neutral and give it gas, (3) when you are driving and the noise starts if you let off the gas the noise is gone immediately, and (4) there are no engine codes or anything present. My MPG is the same as it was b4 the noise started and other than the noise I don't notice any issues with it shifting. I'm completely baffled, at first I thought this was an engine issue but given point 1 and 2 I quickly trashed that idea. The IWE issue made quite a bit of sense, but could I be having a transmission issue? Where should I go from here? Thanks in advance all!
little more info. The vehicle has 86000 miles. In January I had a shop replace all the belts, the spark plugs, flushed the radiator, and replaced all the fluids in the front and rear diff, and transfer case.

Typically the IWE's issue is a grinding sound as opposed to a squeal or chirp. Also when the IWE's are having issues like vacuum leak it usually is a problem when OFF throttle and goes away when you get ON the throttle.
When you put it in neutral and give it throttle, the engine isn't really under any load, so it might not be stressed enough to duplicate the issue. So I would think it could still be engine-related, but it's really hard to say without hearing the issue. Any way you can get video or audio and post it?

Here could possibly be another piece to the puzzle, this morning when I started it the engine misfired, after waiting for the misfire to stop (it eventually worked it's way out) right after, the engine threw the "random misfire code". But there was no additional information. Any other ideas coming to mind?
Its been awhile since anything has happened on this thread, today i had another intresting development! Its been making the noise and driving and shifting normally minus the random misfire on startup. Today I came off the freeway and literally lost all power and had a very bad misfire almost like it was about to die. Threw 11 codes many reapeats. Coasted into a parking lot let everything sit for 4 hours started it back up and back to normal. So random. The codes I got were as follows: P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, & P2195.
still not sure what is going on but some of the techs and service managers i talked to about the last issue said i needed specific codes to come to a conclusion, i now have those and hopefully can get more than just a guess! We'll keep ya posted!

You may have an exhaust manifold leak on bank 1. You misfired heavy on 1 through 4 and then threw a o2 bank 1 sensor 1 stuck on lean code. Either the o2 sensor is bad and/or you have an exhaust manifold leak. I’d guess the latter based on the noise you’re experiencing.

Thanks for suggesting this, this is one of the things that was sugested to me over the phone as well. How would one go about trouble shooting an exhaust manifold leak? Ive tried power breaking the engine and trying to get the noise, to no sucess. Is there any other way to trouble shoot this? All the symptoms are very intermittent and happen when they want to. Today i thought the thing was dead for good when it started misfiring. The past few mornings when i start it, it shakes really bad for like 30 seconds but works out of it eventually and then drives fine many times without a problem.

So I just wanted to post on here some information for future people having a similar issue. After cleaning many sensor and more engine codes being thrown it was pretty evident that the purge valve wasnt working correctly. Since changing the purge valve and driving about 800 miles, i have not heard any audible noise. Everyone ive talked to says you shouldnt get a noise like that because of a bad purge valve and quite frankly i agree, but so far since replacing that $100 piece we havent had any issues, and have gotten some of the best gas milage the pickup ever has. So maybe its just a fluke that the problem was fixed with a new purge valve and it will come back with time but for now looks like were ready to fly down the highway.
