Default Cheapest remote starter

I'm looking to install the remote starter myself or maybe I'll ask someone to install it if their labour isn't crazy. Isn't it pretty easy and straight forward to instead these ourselves though? What software or modules do I need? I have a 2010 f150 lariat 5.4

Does that work on a 2010? Computers changed in 2011. There is a built-in remote start in 2011+ trucks that can be enabled with Forscan (and purchase of appropriate keys), which I think is what Smartecosse is referring to.

The easiest is OBD based remote start, simply plug it in and a little programming with the keys. Ex: https://accessorides.com/products/re...play-key-start

Yeah I seem to be getting a lot of replies on other places to related to 2011 onwards.. sucks I just bought this truck and didn't realise I was in an older generation for say. I thought the 2009-14 models would be all more or less the same but I apparently got a much different system lol.

Thanks for the link, I have seen this before but it's so expensive, 399 minimum for one way starter. And that's USD. Gotta be a cheaper options out there.

Wait, so my 2012 just needs a set of keys and a Forscan update to have remote start?

You need an antenna ($35) and a hood switch if your truck doesn't already have it ($13). You can get non-OEM keys for about $30 each, and a local hardware store can cut the keys for a few bucks. Plug in the antenna and hood switch, program the keys using Forscan, and enable remote start with Forscan. Boom, done.

That is awesome. I'm looking up Forscan info now. I'm hoping this is something I can do myself.

Yep.

I used the kit from Fairway Ford on eBay for my '12 XLT
https://www.ebay.com/itm/181322577281

It is a bit expensive at $250 but includes OEM keys. The antenna takes all of 5 min to install. I couldnt find anyone to cut my keys but finally got them cut at a store called Batteries Plus Bulbs for $60.

Bought Forscan here:
https://forscan.org/home.html

Bought the OBII adapter here:
Amazon Amazon

Using this thread I activated the remote start system:
https://www.f150forum.com/f38/forsca...ations-349018/

and walla! Remote start works. Ive never had an issue with distance on mine. I could be on the far end of my house upstairs and out of view and it will still start.
