Default Car dealerships are whack

Ok, so the title is corny. But anyway, I had a 2013 screw 5.0 4wd in the past. Traded it in order for my wife to have the newer and nicer ride. I've been driving a 10 yr old Buick as a DD, and I bought a pretty decent 95 z71 to use when I truly need a truck. The AC and everything works on it, it's unmolested, pretty ok truck. But it's dated and weak. I was eating lunch near a Ford dealer today and they had a truck I liked. 2014 xlt, leather, 4wd screw, 20k miles, Kodiak brown, 5.0. I haven't driven a newer truck in a couple of years, and I like the Kodiak. So when I stopped to look at it I thought, "How much nicer will it be?" And "Do I really need/want a nearly new truck?" So when the sales guy asked if I wanted to drive it, I explained that I'd love to, but it might be a waste of his time. It drove great. I liked it. No squeaks, no rattles, no knocks, the brakes worked better than anything I drive, it had more power than anything I drive. Nice. "What are you guys asking for it?", I ask. "I'm not sure, what do you want your payment to be?", he says. I told him I'd like to know the price. Shopping for a payment is stupid, as if you extend the loan for long enough, you can afford to buy anything (like a house). Anyway, I had to go inside and sit down at a table just to get the asking price. Which was...$38k. Ok...I bought the same truck in 2013, sans leather, a backup camera, some blinkers on the mirrors, and a few 12v outlets for $32 new. I figure you could buy this truck for around $35k new. You could definitely get it for $38k new. I really didn't want to make an offer, I need to pay off the house before I get another payment. But when did dealers decide the asking price was a secret? When did used trucks sale for the same price they did new? Do people fall for that ****, or am I a chintzy old bastard? Lol

Standard practice.... Also with new f150s priced sky high, the used market has been strong somthatvtruck would sell for low to mid 30s used... I bet they will hold out for $34k for it and likely get it or close to it.

I sold my 2011 f150 w 40k miles, bald tires, and some deeps scratches for $4k less than I paid new and only mod was spray in liner. They hold their value for some reason.

I understand the 15's are pricey. The second sales guy told me as much. But this ain't a 15 and never was. Which I told him lol. I found a 2015 screw, 4wd, 5.0, low option sport package new advertised for $31k. It doesn't have leather, possibly the backup camera, and some other things, but the drivetrain and body are the same or better. Who would pay $7k more for leather and a camera?

The whole not telling you the asking price just pisses me off to no end, really. Ask 50 grand for the used truck of you want. Just let me get outta here so someone else can tell you what they want their payment to be. I'm no genius, but It's been a couple of days since I fell off the turnip truck lol.

I guess people are dumb. Present company excluded, of course.

I guess I will wait a while and buy new. Slightly used costs more, apparently. I really like the 14 body style better, but I don't care to pay more for it.

I've had three offers from the local stealership to buy my 2012 Eco for 20% over bluebook. Of course, when they find out how many miles it has on it they are no longer interested. The used market must be making them a lot of money for them to send things in the mail like that trying to get you to sell.

I figured as much. But it's going to be hard to pressure me into nearly 40 grand if I'm not sure it's a good deal. Better bring out the water boarding.
