Can't decide - 5.0 or Eco

Yeah, I am old school and I want the V8 too!
Had a V10 TDI Touareg for awhile, so I know all about low end torque and towing power. Still have a TDI for fuel economy.
I like the throaty sound that Ford V8 makes. Hope you EB owners buy the Ford extended service contracts for the time when one of the Turbos takes a dump. EB= expensive repairs
EB is great technology, but I think I will wait for the technology to prove itself over the next couple of years. I think you are pretty safe with a Ford V8 and I like to play it safe.

Wow you must have a crystal ball to know there will be problems with the Eb turbos.
Just cause its new dont mean there will be a problem.
Turbo Diesels been around for ever and there has been problems with all sorts of them. Remember the 6.0 diesel SD?

Oh -did add the stainless mesh screen in the void in the front bumber today. Fearful of damage to the intercooler with it being left open, should still get the needed airflow and will avoid damage by larger items

Pretty certain the 5.0 aftermarket community will have tons of goodies available in the near future as well.
I guess time will tell what the motor of choice will be for the 21st Century Fords.
A friend of mine at Ford told me one of the reasons Ford is trying to move away from V8 motors and push the EB engine, is in order to meet the upcoming and stringent CAFE Standards that are on the horizon. Brings up the corporate fuel economy averages.

It'll just take time for people to buy into a V6 in a pickup, even though Ford has put V6's in F150's for decades. At one time it used to be taboo to have a V6 in a car, now just about any car comes with a 4 cylinder.

Day 2 with the new Eco. Didn't sleep well last night as was dreaming of getting out there and doing some light mods and driving a bit. Got it out and put about 60 miles (varied driving - mostly stop and go traffic) on it today and was averaging 16.8 MPG with only 150 miles on the clock. I don't think I ever got that in stop and go traffic with my 2010 5.4 with 3.55 gears, driving like I had an egg under the accelerator. The new Eco has 3.73 gears and the Max Tow Package, so the 3.55 Eco might do slightly better and this thing will do better overall once broken in fully. Nothing I have found yet that I do not absolutely love about this motor. Cant wait to drive to work tomorrow

I think they will all do well in terms of resale provided they are screw cabs and have 4x4. I personally went with the Lariat pkg and the 5.0.
Historically, truck buyers want V8 motors. The Eco-Boost looks very promising and looks to have great potential. For me it was a toss up between the 5.0 and the Eco-Boost. In the end I decided the 5.0 offered me the most flexibility, affordable and straightforward repairs if needed and decent fuel economy. The Eco-Boost prefers better quality gas (premium fuel) and you have 2 turbos that could fail and be costly to repair /replace out of warranty.
In the end, you are buying a truck for YOU and I would get what you want and drive it into the ground.

Devil's advocate
Yes, I bought the $30 muffler based on how it sounds. I did not buy my truck with the sound of the exhaust in mind at all. It wasn't even a factor. You completely missed my point, lol. lrn2comprehend.
