From a stop, you step on it, and there's like no response, and then it takes off like you were slingshotted. Also, it doesn't seem like the power comes on til 3500 rpms, so around town driving just feels kinda sluggish/lack of throttle response. To me partial throttle = not much power, 3/4 to full throttle = hold on you're being slingshotted!

Anyway, thanks for all the replies. Going to drive the 5.0 again just to make sure.
Strange cause I found the 5.0 less responsive than the ecoboost and the 5.0 likes high RPM's as that is where it performs best where the EB I drove performed uniformly across the RPM scale. I am curious to see how your future drives go.

Is there a reason you're trading in your truck at 100k miles and not waiting until 200k?

If I wait till 200k, it would be worth a lot less. It's a 2006 and is now paid off. I can anywhere from 15-20k on a trade in. Add rebates and A-Plan, I'm looking at getting a nicely equipped FX4 with a Ecoboost and financing under 20k. I really don't plan on keeping the F150 for more than 5 years. I usually change vehicles every 3 years. I was ready to buy an F150 back in 2009 but held off till the new engines came out.

I get 18mpg so far with the 5.0 and thats not running down the highway on long hauls, I only live 19mi away from work. I think I will just go drive a 100 to see what it will do hmmm.
time will tell if the eco is a bust or not but Big Blue seems to do better r&d then the other guys.

In the most [general] of terms, some of your statement may have validity, e.g., "turbos run hot"; however, with respect to the new design/technology and cooling system for the EB, I would argue back, that I do not think the Ford engineers on this EB design team, would agree with your thesis.

BTW, have you viewed the extended version of the EB video and the torture test?

I'd like to see a side by side dyno sheet comparison.

You are right. Just put 60 miles on the 5.0. I really like the instant throttle response from a stoplight, but after that, the eco wins out. In the 5.0, cruising at 55, if you step on it a little to where it doesn't downshift, it just doesn't accelerate, whereas the eco just pulls, no matter what rpm you are at. The 5.0 needs to downshift and rev past 3500 to make good power. But boy does it sound good. Once you get past the nice sound, the eco does really have more power throughout the rpm range, with less pedal involved to make that power. I did average 16.2mpg in the 5.0 (and I wasn't easy on it), which is still a huge improvement over my 2002 5.4, and much more power. However, for my $40k+, I'm going with the ecoboost.

Now my only problem is I'm going to have to order one and wait. Nothing in inventory around here equipped like I want.

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

I drove all 3 new motors, then retested the 5.0 and EC but this time I drove the 5.0 with my Boss nosie Cancelling Headphones on,and in my opion the 5.0 was less impressive with the nosie removed the equation.Just because it sounds fast doesnt mean it is.

With my EC 3:55 gears screw 145 WB my average mpg is 20.8 mixed driving 60%HW CC set at 70mph 40% city 40mph and under. CC set at 65 23.4 mpg / CC set at 70 21.5 mpg / CC set at 55 mph 23.8 mpg this is reading the dash display no long hand Cal's yet.

Wednesday I'll be towing my 6K trailer can't wait to see how it does.

As a side-bar to this thread, having watched and enjoyed the Ford video of the complete EB Torture-Test; I would be interested to know, what type oil they ran in that engine, and how often they changed it, during this test period?

For those of you who haven't yet viewed the video, it is impressive!!

PLEASE create a new thread and give a detailed report after your tow - I'm sure we are all interested in how it does. Thanks!
