when i was looking for a truck Nav was the last thing on my list of must have's, but after playing with my girlfriends dads 2015 F250 nav i gotta have it. i found this guy on Ebay that charges $600 for you to send your Sync Module in and he will reprogram it to have nav and include the A6 nav chip for $45 extra. Is this something the dealer or a specialty stereo shop can do? i called a few weeks back and the dealer had no idea what i was talking about. How is it that this guy can do this? i am really tempted to do this but im not 100% sure on it. thanks in advance

It's kinda sketchy to do (Ford Tech here) we have done it on personal vehicles of people that work at the dealership. What you have to do it take your sync module and put in to a car that has navigation and program it the computer that programs it checks the VIN number and see if it has navigation or not. Then you take it our of that car and reinstall it in your and it does not VIN check. Now the problem is that if you ever want to update your sync system there is a chance that you will lose the navigation. Due to the reprogramming of the sync.

Hope this helps let. Even know if you have any questions

So is it safe to say then if i can pull a apim from a wrecked truck that i could enable nav that way. IE if the truck had nav and a close set of features. Right screen size, right speakers and so on. That it should enable nav and then accept the sd card?

If you got one from a wrecked truck that had all the same options as yours WITH navigation the it should work I am not going say it will work 100% but it should

if all you want is the nav, your $600 would be better spent on a quality Garmin or equivalent unit. The stock nav is OK, but my 7-8 years old Garmin was just as good... can't imagine what the new ones are like!

ive had a few porttable navs and they always get fried from the sun or from being dropped, plus its just more clutter on the windshield/ dash that i dont want. i would much rather have the OEM nav for the sync compatibility and voice commands. plus with the sirius subscription you get traffic, weather, as well well as many other goodies.

When you take it from one vehicle to another for programming do you match it all identically? Engine size, trim, options? I can't see how engine or trim would matter, but same number of speakers, heated/cooled seats. those i could understand.

so it really is as easy as reprogramming the sync module, in theory... i have thought about going to the junk yard to look for one, but im sure it wont be easy, plus knowing which one has nav and which dont. im sure it wont be easy when you cant turn it on. im gonna email this guy and see what he says, but i will also call around and ask my buddies who work at ford. thanks for your input.

Easiest way would be to run vin checks from your phone onsite. http://www.vindecoderz.com/EN/check-lookup/
Works fairly well. For some reason it only lists navigation (atleast in a way i can decrypt it) for 2013+ years.

It says Less Navigation System. Based on how it is all listed, i would assume With Navigation System would be what you want.

I am sure there is a better site, but thats what I found quickly.
