"Can no longer order a 2012"
This is what I was told today from my local very large dealer. I have been negotiating on a truck for the last couple of weeks, but there were a few things that were costly options that I did not care for: 20" wheels, 3:73 rear.
Daily driver, don't need either.
Sticker price was $50,950 after a $1,000 package discount. They made me an offer of $41,340. I countered at $39,000. They would not move on the price.
Today I asked them to work me a price on the same truck without the aformentioned options and was told "we are no longer taking orders for 2012, it will be a 2013" I said no problem, give me a price.
I am wondering if they are bailing on the 2012 models due to the problems, have a fix, and want to disaccoiate themselves>
Any thoughts?

Rule 1: When you are ready to buy, NEVER talk to anyone but a manager, such as fleet manager, new car manager, truck manager, or similar. In a big dealedrship, the fleet manager is usually your best bet.
Lot lizzards live from paycheck to paycheck, and they want to sell you a truck now, not two months from now. They don't get paid until you take delivery of the vehicle, so they want you to buy one they have in stock.
Managers can take a longer view. And they never have to go ask a higher-up to okay the fantastic deal they're giving you.
Yes, dealerships can still order 2012s. However, if you order one, realize it will probably be the middle of May before you see it. Maybe better is to have a manager try to "locate and dealer trade" for a truck that meets your specs (and price). Transporting your new ride from the other dealership to your dealer is not free, but normally the dealership can work the $200 or so cost into your deal without you realizing you are the one paying for that transporting.
Out here in the sticks, dealer trades are often made as far as 500 miles between dealerships, and that costs at least $500 someone has to pay. But when folks get car fever, they want it now, not two months from now.

This too, is BS and not true at all.

I don't want to repeat what I have offered in previous threads; however, dealers have had this info in-hand for some [months] now. This is a case of the bird in the hand; why would they say to you...yeah, come on back in a couple of months and you can order a new '13. They know, that in the interim, you can change your mind, or find another dealer with a better deal!!
It also could be, that they are holding this info close to the vest and only with the upper management at dealerships, to try and keep it from the general public, as long as possible. This is why forums like this, give a buyer a heads-up on what is coming down the road.
And as Johnwill offered in his post, the latest data is that 06/29/12 is the last day to order a '12; and eight weeks from next Monday (05/14/12) you can start to put in orders for the new '13 MY, and with production starting in late August.
Not sure why anyone would place an order for a '12 that late in the game, when it will most likely show up at the dealer along with a truckload of new 13's? Again, dealers want to sell what they have on their lot now, with the rent meters ticking away; rather than be talking about a factory order for either the '12 or '13 MY trucks.

I even know the specific name of one of the new colors for '13.
