Hi,
New to me (2nd owner) 2011 F150 2WD, 3.5 EB. Has XLT trim package. I love it!
Anyone have a idea as to what this switch is for? It's located lower left of steering wheel. There is one wire that snakes up into dash, and I can only follow it so far, but to nothing that would give me a clue.
So far as I can tell the truck is pure OE, original shocks, no lifts, etc.
First owner bought it with (from build sheet) C1CAE - INCLUDES HEAVY DUTY TRAILER TOWING.
I know previous owner did do a fair amount of travel trailer towing, and the switch in question could be aftermarket or OE, perhaps related to towing. Nothing in owners manual.
Thanks in advance.
Looks like a tracking device.
Perhaps vehicle was a fleet vehicle or rental company. Too old to be a recent rental and odd it would live there still though.
Or an insruance tracker. Anti theft tracker.
Appears to be a transmitter of some sort...as noted above, take it off and check for identification. I believe if it IS a transmitter it should have some FCC type information.
That is a Karr alarm. Dealers use it to secure vehicles on the lot. When you buy the vehicle, they try to sell you the alarm, and then disable it when you refuse.
Thank you all. Extra kudos to Ricktwuhk who nailed it exactly.
I have the original sales contract between prior owner and local Ford dealer. There is a line on the contract for "Security System (Optional)" with "N/A" in the amount column. (Today was first time I reviewed it in detail)
Yet another reason I hate the local Ford dealer....
Yep. If I was the original owner, I would refuse to take delivery until the truck is placed into stock condition, with no evidence of prior drilled holes, or they can leave the alarm functional without cost. Too many dealers out there to put up with that. Yes, the craziness with auto pricing/availability will end eventually. Would give anything if consumers would just keep what they have for another 9 to 12 months. You would see Ford dealers on street corners with a sign and silver cup begging for change.
