Caltracs
Anyone have them or have had them. Any experiences? I hear the work great, but make some clanking noises.
Also, I hear of a few guys that have bolted up some lakewood slapper bars to their leafs. Ones made for the older f150's. Any experiences???

They do what they are intended for. None of which is for daily driving. I assure you that you will quickly tire of clunking and banging and harshness.
But what is it exactly that you are trying to accomplish with these? Drag racing, load carrying, axle wrap shudder? I think you already know the answer as to which product will work best on a daily driver.

Not on this truck. But a leaf spring is a leaf spring. I had Caltracks on my Mustang for about 3 years or so, but it was not a DD. More of a weekend cruiser and test and tune racer. I put them on a 93 F150, and pulled them off in about 2 weeks. Someone has invented a better mouse trap and I'm very pleased.

Let me go into a little more detail. The clanking wasn't really bad over what you normally hear from the stock suspension parts. Where the problem lies is in the front mount of the caltracs. You insert an aluminum bushing with a steel inner bushing, then the side plates rub on the stock mounting brackets. This causes creaks and squeaks. I installed grease zerks to grease some of these parts, but after a week or so the noise would come back. Back in the day, the lightning guys had the same problem and someone invented an anti squeak or rattle kit to kill the noise. It consisted of a few umhw parts to keep from touching the metal on metal. I still have mine, just in case I think of a way to eliminate the noise. They completely eliminated wheel hop and shudder.
