Burnt to a crisp

I am very sorry for the loss, however, this is why GOD made fuses!!!!
The very best of installations can fail!!! But a $10 fuse will protect your $30,000 vehicle from burning down. At least it wasn't parked in the garage when it happened.
Buy a fuse and fuse holder and install it as close to the battery as possible to prevent this from happening to you!!!!!!

It may or may not have saved the vehicle. If the amp got too hot and was in contact with the right thing (well wrong thing) for long enough I could see it catching fire and never tripping the fuse. I've got a 1,000W amp under my back seat that'll get pretty hot when turned up but I'm not maxing it out with one sub off of it so it doesn't concern me. But it could probably get hot enough to start a fire. In the installation instructions they specify to put it somewhere it will not be in contact with fabric or resins.

....agree.
We (well, most of us) come here to help one another. I feel sorry for those that take a shot at others because of the motor is your truck.
I come to learn, to laugh, and to share ideas and experiences.
And I've also seen good stereo installs go bad- it happens.
So sorry for your friends truck FX4- great that he got out, and hopefully something good can come out of his misfortune.
Let us know what the investigation results are. Maybe we can learn a helpful trick or some good advice.
(and I don't think the guys talking about fusing were trying to be mean. Just helpful....)
