I am very sorry for the loss, however, this is why GOD made fuses!!!!

The very best of installations can fail!!! But a $10 fuse will protect your $30,000 vehicle from burning down. At least it wasn't parked in the garage when it happened.

Buy a fuse and fuse holder and install it as close to the battery as possible to prevent this from happening to you!!!!!!

Oh ya! I've got one on mine. Guess I don't need to worry after all. Thanks for the reminder!

It may or may not have saved the vehicle. If the amp got too hot and was in contact with the right thing (well wrong thing) for long enough I could see it catching fire and never tripping the fuse. I've got a 1,000W amp under my back seat that'll get pretty hot when turned up but I'm not maxing it out with one sub off of it so it doesn't concern me. But it could probably get hot enough to start a fire. In the installation instructions they specify to put it somewhere it will not be in contact with fabric or resins.

Most amplifier installation kits come with a fuse built into the power cord, about a foot from the battery.

That's a lousy way to lose a good truck.

It had a fuse and it was installed correctly. The fire started at the amp. The fuse couldn't have saved it. The Fire Chief said that the fire started under the seat which we knew already. Why not ask if a inline fuse was installed before giving your opinion of what needs to be installed? I have been installing car stereos as a hobby since 1995 and have never had an issue. Now the shop who installed this system will be investigated by the insurance company to make sure it wasn't a botched install. I was just sharing a very good friends misfortune. So what brand of fuses does GOD make that you speak of? I'll be sure to buy stock

....agree.
We (well, most of us) come here to help one another. I feel sorry for those that take a shot at others because of the motor is your truck.
I come to learn, to laugh, and to share ideas and experiences.
And I've also seen good stereo installs go bad- it happens.
So sorry for your friends truck FX4- great that he got out, and hopefully something good can come out of his misfortune.
Let us know what the investigation results are. Maybe we can learn a helpful trick or some good advice.
(and I don't think the guys talking about fusing were trying to be mean. Just helpful....)
