Default Broken wheel spacer studs

Guys, wanted to see if anyone has had any issues such as mine. I have a 2011 Supercrew F-150 Ecoboost 4X4. I added a 2" leveling blocks to the front and 3" leveling blocks to the rear. I then added 307/70/18 MasterCraft tires, which rubbed alittle. I then installed 1 1/2" wheel spacers from Wheelnparts.com in July. This week I had 3 spacer studs snap on the front passenger tire and 1 spacer stud on the front driver tire. Does anyone have any guess to what might cause this?

Thanks,
Strawdog

I have heard of a few cases where the original wheel studs had to be ground off a little because they were sticking out past the end of the spacer and the wheel was hitting them before making contact with the mounting surface of the spacer. I don't like spacers in general because they are somewhat prone to this problem even when properly fitted. If they were made of a high grade cast steel with grade 8+ studs these problems could largely be avoided.

Strawdog ... installed 1 1/2" wheel spacers from Wheelnparts.com in July. ...
There is no such web site as - Wheelnparts.com, so could not review the product. However, some points ...
  • wheel adapters need to be hub centric.
    .
  • while co$t doesn't necessarily translate to quality, < $100 for a set of 4 wouldn't (IMO) indicate a quality product.
    .
  • wheel adapters have to be properly installed.
If any one of the above conditions weren't met, the results that you've experienced could have occurred.

Sorry about that gDMJoe, looked at my e-receipt and that was the name on it, but was purchased from Ebay, (and for $100.00 for all 4). Who knows where they came from. I did find a email address on the receipt and emailed them but no reply yet. (Don't think I'll get one) I have my garage taking the wheels and spacers off to see whats going on. Hopefully I find out what is going on, after some of the posts and videos I have watched. Also in the process of locating new studs and hoping the spacers themselves aren't messed up. Will replace all 24 studs. The piece of stud that was left in one of the lug nuts did not feel like a good stud, to me anyhow. Thanks for the help.

Idk that I would try the spacers again. From what I read online, you aren't doing yourself any favors by using them. My thoughts would be find some wheels with a negative offset. Now, I have no real life experience with spacers so somebody may correct me, but from my readings of others experiences, I would think this would be the safer/easier/cheaper in the long run solutions.

I took a quick glance the other day at the BORA spacers, they were something like $400 for a set of 4... so for $25 a piece, you probably got some recycled-contaminated-chinese steel crap spacers...
do it right, or dont do it at all

On a hunch I had checked-out the wheelsNparts ebaY® store before making the previous post. Their offerings appeared to be JUNK (but then ... have no 1st-hand knowledge/experience with their offerings).

Sorry to say but .....
The bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the sweetness of low co$t is forgotten.

My friend just had 4 of 6 studs shear off at 35 mph on his hummer h3 spacer. I told him not to get spacers but for 250 for all 4 instead of 1000 for wheels he tried it. Guess who bought wheels today lol

Well hopefully my dumb *** mistake will help anyone thinking about wheel spacers. After getting in the garage last night and trying to remove the front wheel with the studs that had broken off. The first lug I hit with the impact snapped just as the others did. After removing the wheel, I found out why this probably happened. The factory studs stuck out past the spacer, roughly about 1/16" to a 1/8". Those studs left perfect round spots on the inside of my rims. So i'm guess, since the wheel never touched the spacer that it put all the pressure and weight on the spacer studs, which weren't the best to begin with, and snapped them. My wheels looked exactly like the videos on line. So I am removing the spacers, and will either get better grade spacers and grind the tips of the factory studs down, which have no treads on the end for about 1/4" or look of some nice wheels that will allow the wheels to be pushed out to relieve the rubbing. Again, I hope this will help someone out. Properly installed I believe they would work. I have attached some pictures of the rear wheel showing the stud marks on the wheel, the spacer, and my truck.

If you're going to grind the studs down, screw a nut on first so when you back it off it'll clean off any burr left on the tip of the stud. Although I'm not a particular fan of spacers, those appear to as well made as any others I've seen. Are the replacement studs easy to get, or are they a proprietary item? Beautiful truck, I love the color.
