Default Boost Gauge Issue

I installed my boost gauge today. I used the Full Race throttle body spacer, and I placed the Speedhut sensor directly into the spacer. It is reading boost, but I can only get it to read about 12 lbs of boost. Should it be showing higher? Would it be better to move the sensor and connect a vacuum line to the spacer, and then use the supplied transducer into the sensor? I am wondering if this may be why it is reading low, but wasn't sure if I could just screw the sensor directly into the spacer or not. Truck is stock, so maybe that is all it will get. I have read different numbers, so maybe I don't have an issue at all!

1- does the gauge zero out when the engine is off?
2- I hit 17 psi, but I have a tune.

12psi isn't that unusual AFAIK.

It will zero out, so it is probably working fine. I figured higher with a tune, but I had read differing numbers. It seems to me then that it is probably working properly. I think I will just get some wire loom to cover the exposed wire and call it good. Thanks for the reply!

12 lbs. of boost is normal if you are stock. Tuned trucks will be higher.

If I think about it, I'll post after I get my new Speedhut gauges (got the ones with the "FX" on the face, and will go into the new A-pillar bezel I just got. I'll let you know what the readings are...

Thanks. They are definitely nice gauges. With just a Lariat I didn't get anything on them, I do wish I would have requested a longer harness. As it was, I just combined my power wires and lighting wires and ran them to the passenger kick panel and used a fuse tap to power them. I didn't want to cut into the wiring harness and they are not blinding at night...so it works great with the key on fuses. It was a bear getting the wire for the pressure sensor through the firewall....that grommet did not want to let me cut it or make a hole for it to pass through. Few cuss words and a little blood later it made it!

I've had a vacuum line running through the firewall for a couple of years now. I use an old fashioned hole punch (for paper) to make the hole. Nice snug fit to seal things well. For me it will be just a rip-n-replace. I tapped into the side vacuum line on the drivers side of the manifold for vacuum. I plan on using the same location for the Speedhut doohickey.

My current set up:

Sure hope you don't need to see any of the warning lights that are behind that gauge/bezel...

Easily, the panel is not so obstructed that you can't see behind it.....it sits at least 6 inches in front of it so you can change your angle and easily see the whole instrument cluster, and if something lights up back there it is even more obvious.

The angle of that picture is almost straight on from the gauge (about chest level), which I did intentionally. While sitting in the vehicle the advantage (viewing angle) is about 6 to 10" higher.

I'm very pleased with the placement of the pod!
