And here's some more, ions are electrolytes. This is why I said they don't need to be introduced. They're already there. The dryer the air the more static electricity it produces. Electricity releases ions in steel. There are also trace amounts of hydrogen acids in both steel and oil. Electricity releases hydrogen ions. If you don't want to accept or believe it that's fine but as I said, all steel will eventually rust. And as I said, "entropy." Third law of thermodynamics. Nothing is static. Everything changes. I see no reason to pursue this anymore.

Of course everything tends toward entropy... If you want to talk about entropy lets talk about the half life of iron isotopes. Fe-60 I think has a half life of over a million years. Not exactly relevant to a vehicle that has a 50% chance of being in a junk yard in less then 20 years. If cars and trucks can rust so readily even in the absence of water then why is it that a 20 yr old car in Vegas can still have its shiny original exhaust even with the moisture produced by combustion? Right now, where I'm standing in front of my desk at work I have with in ear shot close to 200,000 lbs of brass, aluminum, half a dozen grades of stainless, carbon steel, hastelloy, monel, inconel, and nitronic metals. This is about 2 weeks worth of material. I've worked here for over 10 years and the only thing that is done to protect the carbon steel beyond just covering it with a tarp on a flatbed is coat it in oil. Oh and we climate control the building to limit humidity. This is bare steel.

Steel rusts, aluminum oxidizes/ cracks apart. Plastic weakens from UV/heat and becomes brittle. There isn’t a material known to man that lasts forever and that is life on earth. If you like the truck you can replace the steel, if you don’t you can move on. People stress out like it’s the end of the world, no rust isn’t cancer. Yes it can be stopped/ slowed. If you don’t want to fix now an oil like Fluid Film will slow it down.

Unfortunately I cant afford to replace untol God knows when. Going through a very bad divorce. Do any of those anti rust things actually work. Assuming I can get to the inside of the fender wells? My body working skills suck badly. Again with what im going through paying someone to fix this isnt really in the cards right now?
Thank you Jamie

hose it out real good to remove all dirt and crap that can hold moisture. got to get up above the wheel wells. and then use a encapsolator or lots of fluid film.

Yep look into Fluid film, you can spray it right over rust, fluid film chokes it off from moisture and oxygen which slows it down 100 fold. Clean or wash the surface then spray.

Spray inside the rocker panels from the holes behind. The rockers commonly rot on these trucks when they get older, aftermarket replacements are readily available and some shops will do the work for $1,400-$1,500 but fluid film will help delay it.
