I have a 2012 f150 with the rear view mirror as the screen and would show the blue screen for a moment the go off completely. I had the good luck to be able to talk directly with the tech at the ford dealership that does the work on the cameras, he told me that the camera has a module built into it and that is where they are finding 90% of the failures, a few connection failures and almost no monitor failures. so it look to me like not much of a gamble to buy the camera and try it so I did and it is working like new again. I looked through all of the forums I could find with little to no help to out there on this subject so maybe this will help some of you out. Oh and ford gets $100 an hour to trouble shot this, the camera and the emblem on the tailgate where $170 (you will break the emblem trying take it apart so go ahead and but it as well) It is so easy to replace that I did it in the dealership parking lot in about 10 minutes. tools needed,7mm socket 1/4 inch ratchet and a T-25 star bit. pop just the smaller piece that is the ford emblem off then you will see the 7mm screws holding the larger piece to the tailgate once that is removed and turned over you will see the star screws holding the camera in place. Good luck!!!!
I know this is an old thread but thought I would add how if fixed my blue screen.
All I did was sepearte the connector at the tail gate, add some dielectric grease at the contact points and use channel lock pliers to press it back together. After this it worked again.
I have the same issue. Thought it would be the backup camera harness, so replaced that. Added dielectric grease to all contacts, no go. Replaced the camera, also did not fix it. Then, I disconnected the cable from the rear view, plugged back in, shifted to Reverse, and it pops up an image really quickly, then back to blue screen. Image below. I was able to record video and then screen grab this image during playback. What to replace next? The rear view?

After changing the camera, checking every fuse possible and looking at all the cables, I finally figure out what was wrong. Took the first connections from the tailgate apart and this is what I found. Cleaned it up the best I could, snapped it back together and works perfect now.
shouod have done that first!
It's remarkable how many of the 'external' connections of this type, have that kind of problem. Taking them apart and applying dielectric grease before this happens is a great idea, external connections include things like the license plate lights as well as tail lighting, cameras etc.
Even after that kind of cleanup required, dielectric grease in there before reconnecting will help greatly in prevention.
