Default Backup Camera Wiring HELP NEEDED!

Hi All,

I have a 2013 F150 XLT, with the backup camera in the rearview mirror. It quit working a while ago, and I am now trying to figure it out and get it repaired. I have searched extensively and can find information relating to the cameras being a problem and needing to be replaced, I have the connector wiring diagram at the camera and at the mirror. I purchased a new camera hoping it was a quick fix, but no luck. What I need help with is now steps to work through the wiring, or to figure out if I have a rearview mirror problem. When the issue first appeared, I had no indication on the screen except for no image showing up. I did not get an error or communication message, or a blue screen, or a black screen, or a fuzzy screen or anything like. Just no image whatsoever for a while, then it would work perfectly fine for a while, then back to no image again. Eventually, the image just never returned.

What I have done so far:
1) Replaced with a new camera, no changes
2) Verified I have 12V power and ground at pins #1 and #5 in the camera connector
3) Verified I have 12V power and ground at pins #1 and #4 in the mirror connector
4) Verified I am receiving the backup signal in pin #2 at the mirror connector

I think these are my next steps, but I could use some information:
- at the camera connector pin #2, should I also be receiving a trigger signal? Would it be 12V? Right now I am not getting anything at that pin when in reverse
- for pins #3,4, and 6 at the camera connector. Is there anywhere I can check the signal here with a standard multimeter?
- for pins #8 and 16 at the mirror connector, same question as above
- Can anyone tell me additional connector locations and wire colours/pin numbers that I can use to trace continuity to look for a break in the line somewhere?
- How do I verify the mirror itself is operating correctly? Because of the lack of blue/black screen I am wondering if I just have a mirror problem

Am I on the right track with this? Any other information or wiring diagrams would certainly be helpful! Thank you

I haven't tried this, I don't have the same system you do (video in mirror). But, here is Ford's testing for the issue.

Thanks for the test procedure! That looks very thorough... Here's to hoping it's a wiring problem and not my mirror $$$$

I will work through these steps and report back!

Any luck with this? I need to get a voltage tester and see if i can pinpoint the issue with my camera.

I’ve checked all my wiring and have decided to purchase a new camera.

My local dealer is too expensive. I don’t want a used one.

So I assume ebay is my best best.

Anyone have a link or suggestion on which ebay ones? I don’t want to get screwed with a cheap china knock off.

Thanks.
