Default Bizarre bumper rust

My 2010 has suddenly developed a rather strange blistering rust problem on the rear bumper in one spot only. The other side of the bumper is fine. I don't know why this one corner is so bad yet the rest of the truck is fine.

The truck itself has no rust on it and I get it sprayed at Krown every year since new. I noticed about 2 months ago that this spot on the bumper had a bit of a bulge under the paint. Now it has broken through the surface and it's ugly as hell.

How would you go about fixing this? Do you think a body shop would be able to do something or should I grind it out and Line-X the thing?

Here's a photo... you can see there's still a huge blister under the paint that hasn't broken through yet.

That bumper will have to be re-chromed to look right. It most likely didn't have a good chrome job from the beginning. Chrome parts most of the time aren't as good quality as they used to be 15-20 years ago. That probably wasn't the root cause but certainly didn't help prevent the rust.

Thanks for your reply. Actually, its not a chrome bumper. Just a painted black one.

I'm surprised to see that much rust on a 4 year old truck! I've seen rust on the driveshaft of new trucks, but never that much on a bumper. For sure a body shop can fix that.

Yeah, and the fact that its coming from under the paint is strange to me. I wash the truck at a touchless car wash regularly in the winter and hand wash it in the summer. That blister came up very suddenly.

The truck is still dirty from winter as I haven't given it the spring cleaning hand wash yet. The weather is finally getting warm.

I took it to my dealer and they said no go on warranty. The truck is past the standard warranty but I do have ESP on it until 2016. However, I read the literature and it states bumpers are excluded.

And it's not just salt these days. It's that liquid calcium chloride that they're using on roads which is just killer on vehicles.
