Default Bed protection

Need help deciding on the best bed protection for 2012 FX4. Thinking of either retractable or hard folding. I would like peoples impressions of any make/model. Please comment on weather protection and security since I would be occassionally loading the rear with my hunting equipment.

Thanks,

Brian

When I bought my truck a few weeks ago, I negotiated a tonneau cover into the deal. It is a soft cover made my Truxedo. It has the Ford logo embossed in the middle of the cover about 3/4 of the way back. Since installing it, we have a few severe downpours without an ounce of water getting inside. Also, the way that it closes/locks means that the only way someone could get into your bed with the tailgate locked is by cutting it open with a knife.

It really is a nice design and rolls up neatly against the back window and secure with velcro straps when open. I am very pleased with it. I should mention it also comes with a 5 year warranty. I definitely think it will last much longer than that as it seems to be very good quality and I keep my truck in the garage so keeping it out of the elements should help too.

Hope this helps.

Mike

I have an extang Solid Fold Bed cover. It does not leak and can be locked from the inside so it will not open without the tail gate down. Then you can just lock the tailgate and the things in the bed are secure. It is very strong and will hold a persons weight. It can also be easily removed. There are only clamps that hold it down. No tools are necessary for removal. It can also fold out of the way and store at the front of the bed. My only grip is that it folds in three sections and when folded in the stored position at the front of the bed, it still covers 1/3 of the bed. But it only weights 50 pounds so it can be removed easily if needed.

I have better pictures on my home computer if you are interested I can get them.

Got Undercover original for my 2012, got te truck in July so still waiting for some weather change to come but so far nothing has gotten in it and it was a good deal at $699. With the double locks on it the only way in is to try it open with a pry bar. Really like the look against the black bed caps, nice even coloring black on black..

I bought this from JC Whitney.

It fit perfect, doesn't leak and I've had to yell at a kid to get off it but it supported his weight. He was laying on the friggin' thing. I thing I paid $269 and waited for the free shipping.

A coworker of mine had a retractable one and while he loved it (dunno what brand) he said it was inconvenient because leaves or branches or water would pool on it and then he'd open it and it would all fly in to the bed.

I have an Extang Solid Fold and it's been great on THREE trucks. Doesn't leak and is still as solid as it was the day I put it on. Comes off (or goes on) in just seconds. And we sit on it when we tailgate or watch the airshow.

Any issues with locking and the fold down tailgate step?
