Default Bed Extenders

WTF are they so pricey? $300! Seems a little overpriced. I love them but not that much.

Anyone know a good place to get them cheap?

Thanks I'll look around there. I like the new stowable kind made of plastic though

Here's the cheapest I could find:

I absolutely love my bed extender. This is one of those items that you must buy OE as everything else will be inferior. I have a hard tri-fold bed cover (Bakflip) and the bed extender is a perfect complement. When not hauling a load I keep the extender assembled and flipped inward. This works great to haul smallish items at the end of the bed between the closed tailgate and the extender. When you need to haul something longer, simply drop the tailgate and flip the assembled extender out. Lastly when you need the full bed length, disassemble the extender and collapse it down to store on each bed side exposing the full bed length. Love it!

I bought a new Tacoma with the 5' bed and paid about $100 extra for the dealer to install one 11 years ago. It has been invaluable with that truck. I thought I wanted one for my F-150, but wouldn't pay the prices they want now. So far I haven't needed it. The Ford bed is only 6" longer, but a lot wider and deeper. So far I haven't needed it. Plus with the tailgate down on my Ford I have almost 8' to haul long stuff because the tailgate is so much taller. The Tacoma only gives me a bit over 6' with the tailgate down.

I did buy a rubber mat for the bed and it is sticky enough that it keeps stuff near the tailgate and not sliding to the front. If I were to stumble across a good deal I may get one, but so far it hasn't been necessary.

I picked up a used OEM fold-able set off eBay for $200. After having the solid type and the Ford stowable, the Ford one is well worth it.

I found a used OEM one on craigslist outside of San Francisco for $100. I had my son, who lives out there go pick it up and then he shipped it to me in Kansas for $50. Worth the price and effort.

I have one from a sport trac or ranger. I always wondered if I could cut and have a filler piece welded in to match the width of the fifty. For now I just use a 1x6 across the rear to section off and I’ve never had an issue with the 6.5’ bed length.

i agree with the comments about being bulky. They were a pain when I went camping and just left it at the site while we went out wheeling. I was worried about it growing legs and partially hoped it would so I wouldn’t have to deal with it anymore.
