Bed extender: how much space does it go back when inverted inside a 5.5 bed
Basically I need a little more space as I have a tire carrier in the back for my big spare tire. I wanted to know for those of you who have bed extenders how far back they go when inverted when the tailgate is closed. I am looking at amp but anything will do really. Pics would be very much appreciated!!! Just looking to fit in another mod which I will need in the future I am sure.

How's she goin' eh?
Beaker you have a NG hookup to your truck? If so why did they mount in the bed? Was there no room underneath on the frame?
If that was the only option I would have passed. What good is having it take up 1/5 of the bed?

The Ecoboost engine loves to run on NG. I have over 134000 kms on it now and not a problem. NG was installed at 1400 kms.
Unfortunately the tank could not be located in the spare tire location. I originally wanted a 6.5 bed but I bought late in 2011 as the NGV kit was not available yet. So I had to settle for the 5.5 FX2. NG tanks are not like propane tanks. NG is at 3000 - 3600 psi and a gas. Propane is 312 psi and a liquid. Since NG is stored as a gas you need a larger volume to get any sort of driving range.
Currently gas is 1.04 per liter and NG is .10! Ten cents and 365 horsepower. Not bad!!!

Whoa, cool. I never knew that was even possible. I actually have an open space in the spare tire location. I wonder what I could put there. Ideas??

You could install a toroidal propane tank. They look like a spare tire made of welded steel and come in various sizes.
Propane is more readily available.
The problem with NG is availability of fuel infrastructure. There just aren't enough places to fill up. Thats why most NG installations are dual fuel like mine. I still have the full gasoline system and can manually or automatically switch between fuels. I have a home refueling appliance which is a compressor for NG. Goes to 3000 psi!
There's a few threads on here and other forums about NG and propane.
