Default bed divider

i wanted to use a 2x8 for a bed divider in the slots provided however my swingcases on each side block those. so instead i got an extending bar which does the job but leaves a pretty big gap at the bottom. i am trying to think of a way to easily attach and remove a couple pieces of 2x8 in front of the bar to close up the gap as needed. at first i was just going to use some of the industrial velcro i have but i would like a more permanent solution. anyone have any ideas?

thought about that way but passed for a couple reasons... first, that it just too much weight for what i need. it doesn't have to be able to structurally hold hundreds of pounds, just a thin "wall" to stop things from going under the bar to the front of the bed. second, that would not really be possible with the bar i bought. it has a ratcheting system for extension instead of just twist pressure so it would be in the way (see photo below). i've had a few bed bars over the years and they all needed a better system and the ratchet has done just that.

still looking for some type of quick release bar clamp but it looks more and more like velcro will do the job again.

1x2 laid flat under the swingcases all the way across the bed. Then a board of some sort on its edge like a 2x8 would be nailed or otherwise secured to the 1x2. Just a quick brainstorm. Not sure if it would work or not,

In my 2014 I carry some sand bags in the winter. To hold them in place I have a 2x4 in front of, and behind the wheel wells with a 2x4 on each side running parallel to the wheel wells to connect the 2x4s.

I use moving blanket around the ends of the 2x4s to eliminate chafing on the bed at the corners of the framework. sand bags sit between them over the axle. And they form a divisor so the space in front of the wheel wells is distinct from the space between them, which is divided from the space behind them.

Only one 2x4 deep, I don't need a lot of height to keep the sand bags from moving.

thanks for the ideas but way too much engineering/weight for my intentions. i want something easy to insert and remove and building a frame is no going to cut it.

i'm looking for something along the lines of this. maybe not exactly this piece as i am not spending $80+ for 2 clamps but it gives a visualization of my thoughts.

it could be screwed to the 2x8 at the appropriate height and then clamped on to the extender bar as needed. two flicks and it would be out in under 5 seconds with no effort nor looking for a place to store it.

Try a load bar for a van trailer. Can find them at truckstops or warehouses etc 🤔
