that said, on your link, look at the third picture - instead of hooking those ends to the gator clips - youre gonna connect one to the positive post of the battery and the other to ground. The other end of that cable can be connected/disconnected from the charging unit. You can also look at the video just after the 1 minute mark. I would agree to buy the extension in the post above, you'll hook one end to the harness at the battery and then the other to the charging portion then plug the charger into the wall
Interesting...I've had no code on mine at all. I even have the S&B Intake, CVF Intercooler and hot/cold pipes and the SPD Catted Downpipes...no issues with codes at all. Sorry you're dealing with that.
Yes - this is what I'm referring to. I understand the pigtails and connecting those to the battery/ground and leaving it on. The other end of the device where it connects to a wall unit, that cord does not detach from the unit itself. So there will be a hanging/dangling cord. I'm literally just trying to get ideas on where in the engine bay to have this whole unit placed when it's connected to the battery via the pigtails and NOT doing an active charge (it's "maintaining" if you will). That's all.
So if I understand you, you don't keep the device in the truck, you just charge it periodically? Is that right? If so, how often do you charge? I'm just trying to leave it on the truck so it's constantly maintaining it due to the short driving that I do.
I'm not sure what you mean by "house the device itself"? The device plugs into a household 110v electrical socket on the wall and stays there (so does the one you bought). The other cord leaving the device has a two-prong connector that plugs on and off the pigtail - and the pigtail remains attached to your battery under the hood, even when you are driving it without the charger cord attached.
OK - so you're saying you don't physically leave the device in the vehicle itself...just the cords and you attach the device periodically to charge? Is that right? If so, how often do you charge it? Because I was thinking this whole thing stays on the truck all the time and you just charge as needed but ideally it would help maintain a charge on the battery since the short-driving keeps drawing the battery down :facepalm:
dude, the side that connects to the wall outlet does NOT detach - the side that connects to the battery DOES detach. I think it'll make more sense once you get it and open it up
The device ONLY works when plugged into the wall. When you park the truck and don't think you're going to drive it for a while, ya plug it into the truck and then into the wall. It will keep the battery and proper voltage
This is not an on board battery tender. Mount the thing to the wall of your garage or house where you park the truck and put the ring ends with the quick connect on your battery and plug it in when you park.
They do make onboard chargers but that is not what you got.
Also, mount the positive ring to the positive terminal of the battery and the negative ring to the ground on the fender just behind the battery. This allows the hall sensor that is around the negative battery terminal to sense that that battery is being charged and keeps the BCM in the know.
And for $89 i would send that thing back and get a Noco Genius10

Now that I feel stupid, the question is - if I'm doing daily driving but short trips, what would be the recommendation for how often to charge this thing? I drive it daily so would it be something where maybe every couple of weeks I charge it at night, let it sit for 8hrs for the BMS to reset and go from there? I'm just tired of my battery draining every 4-6mos due to the AZ heat and my multiple short trips.
you can leave it plugged in and connected to your truck as long as you want to. it won't do any damage. when it senses the battery is low it starts the trickle charge process. once it is fully charged it stops charging and monitors the battery level until it needs to be charged again - thus maintaining the battery. forget the bms. when you get home connect the cables. when you leave disconnect them.

you'll love it. my wife and i work a couple miles apart so sometimes the truck can sit for a bit in between drives. I plug it in if it sits for a week or more.
