you really need to go to ford's website and REALLY REALLY compare packages and notes.
are you particular about interior trim like LEATHER. in my research I have found that an optioned up XL model is very similar in equipment to an STX.
you could probably buy an optioned up XL (no chrome bumpers, but not body color either)
you could get a lot of stuff in an XL model for not a lot of $$$ AND YOU CAN GET ECOBOOST!!!!
plus a lot of the stuff that you might want that doesnt come on an XL, like better wheels or body color grille/bumpers can all be added after the fact. the harley head/tail lights can be bought as a package for VERY cheap. most dont realize it but STX's dont come with carpet in them unless you option them that way.

good luck with your potential purchase

I got a fully loaded stx also with the fx rims and stuff plus I really wanted the rubber floors. Saved my self a lot of cash and got the blacked headlights and tails from Tasca. Love my stx and only paid 26 for it. I also get 19.5 - 21 mpg constantly 50/50 driving. I love the 5.0.

test drove both that why I was asking about the difference I may not have noticed, I did notice the FX4 had a more "expensive" look to the interior but the Loaded STX did seem to have all the same electric Gizmos as a baseline FX4. Your right about the rubber floor which I actually prefer in a truck, also the 6 passenger seating would be nice to have for short trips to local ATV hot spots with a few buddies and kids. My Wife has the hots for an FX4 Screw EB on the lot that is Blue Flame with the black 20" wheels, leather sport seats, and graphics but the window sticker has me in shock! As for power I was surprised with the 5.0L, all I had test drove were EB's so for and the 5.0L actually felt quicker in town off the stop lights and stop signs than the EB. EB DEFINITELY has more thrust past 30mph though.

Ya, my bad. Could of sworn I'd built a 4x4 scab online before without seeing STX. My apologies.

Here in Southern MN, you can get a loaded 4wd, 5.0, stx for 26,100.

How important is the nicer interior of the fx4?

If you aren't too picky, then get the stx. for 26,100 before tax, title, license that's a great buy on a brand new truck.

But, the fx4s look nice too. Especially a blue flame like the one you are looking at. Here's an example (mine):

I found the fx4 has alot quieter interior way less road noise compared to the cheaper trims.

It's probably just ur perception. I'm pretty sure all trims are built the same. None of them have extra sound deadening material in them

The big selling point for me between STX and other trims was a backup camera. With such a tall box on these trucks, backing up without one can be difficiult. If the STX had the option of a camera I would have been all over it.

Bottom line, if you don't need the FX4 features save your money and get STX.

X2^^^ wish I had the camera. Or at least sensors. My 04 had sensors...saved me from backing over a kid once.

Ya, if not camera they should have at least made sensors available as an option. It definitley helps with a truck. You can go aftermarket but it's not the same quality.
