Default Backup Camera works about 5% of the time

I have a 2012 Ford F-150 Lariat 3.5L EcoBoost and my backup camera is really spotty. It works about 5% of the time, but most of the time, I just get a blue screen and then the blue screen goes away. When the camera does work, the image is reversed, so it's really confusing trying to backup. Does anyone know how to fix these backup camera issues?

It's either the camera or the wiring. The wiring is right there under the truck in the elements. Check it out first.

I had the same problem about 2 years ago on my 2013 FX4. The problem on mine was the connector inside the tailgate. Lower the tailgate and remove the black inside panel. There is a connector down inside that is kinda hard to get to(especially if you have big hands). I unplugged that connector and cleaned it up with contact cleaner, I put some dielectric grease on the pins and plugged it back in. It has been working fine ever since. Hope this helps.
