Its no secret that the factory back up lights suck. I have to ride my brakes to see behind me.


Just wondering if anyone had a good mod for back up lights... I looked at the ridged back up lights but dang... $240.00 is steep.


Anyone got any good ideas?

Replacement LED bulbs are pretty common if you dont want to shell out the cash for rigid or do an F150LEDs reverse light kit for $75.

Skip trying to fit a decent bulb into the existing b/u lamp housing, and try this:

Even the $14 Wallymart 50W H3 halogen 'driving' lights under the bumper are going to provide vastly better illumination - and very inexpensively.

Control/switching arrangement is up to you, Can be as simple or as complex as you want.

BTW - avoid F150Leds - they are overpriced, rebranded, cheap generic chinglish junk - and those fellers are shysters & crooks.

I paid $14-$18 bucks for a pair of 5 LED metal housing lights that I use on mine. Mounted them with one bolt on each side to the rear portion of the leaf spring mount and wired them into the 7 pin trailer harness so wiring took 10 minutes. They are not visible from the back of the truck while driving and light up the ground and area behind the truck well.

 

Rigid Industries…….not cheap, but WELL done.

 

I've used one of these for years in each of my trucks and love it. 2 minute install. Cheap enough to replace if it breaks or wears out.

I use two flush mount cubes. I cut my bumper and wired them to my reverse wire in the 7pin. Very bright and work well with the camera. See my build for pics.

 

Well done, one nice setup. Before Rigid was known, I thought about bezel mounting some whelen white LEDs ( i sell and install emergency lighting,etc) into the bumper of my old truck but was hesitant for two reasons a) no adjustment so once the hole is cut you get what you get and b) edges of bumper rusting from the back bleeding to the front. How did you deal with these and does your setup function as good as it looks?

 

The real solution is extra lights, no bulb/LED is gonna help...

 

I am about to buy a pair of these bulbs. I think they'll do what I need and I won't have to cut my bumper or wire anything up.
