Default Aux. Reverse Light Using 7 Way Trailer Connector Wiring?

I have a set KC daylights gathering dust (100 watt halogen) and I am thinking about mounting one of them to the underside of my rear bumper as an auxiliary back up light.

My 2014 is set up with an OEM tow package and 7 way connector.

From what I gather I can pull trigger power from the backside of the 7 Way (center) and run it to a 10amp relay and power the KC.

Assuming the above is correct, can i pull the 12v power from the 7 way connector or should run the power wire to the + side battery??

I am not sure how many amps the 12v power on the 7 way can handle??

Maybe i can skip the relay altogether?

thank you in advance RR

The reverse terminal of the 7-pin trailer tow connector is fed by the reversing lamp relay and fuse F43, which is rated at 15A and is dedicated to the trailer circuit.

100W / 12.6V = 8A draw.

I'd run it straight off the connector, no relay. If you were hooking up a trailer with reverse lights, I'd double check amp draw then.

I used the same wire for same function but with LEDs I picked up from Northern Tool.

yeah, but they said a set of 100W lights... I suppose that means two of them.

my truck didn't have the 7 pin connector when I got it, so I added the harness and connector, that's when I did a cut/splice into the reverse light lead for the added back up lights. I used a crimp on butt connector, or solder/heat shrink.

I genearlly use either/or.

I did this, also. Worked great, although I gave up on the extra lights and just put better reverse bulbs in the taillights. Wire taps to the proper wires and taped it all up real good. I probably would've been happier with better lights, cheap ones are always a bad idea.

Here's the set I used, cheap LED set from Nothern Tool. Also put the same ones on the back of my wrangler.
