Trust me, I know rust protection as i'm from Montreal myself, we had a 1991 Plymouth Acclaim (with like 200,000 km) that had very little rust when we got rid of it in 2000. We sprayed that car every year.

However since I moved, it isn't needed as I don't live near the beach nor do I really go near the beach. So the only reason would be sprinkler system at the dealer that started all of this.

After trading in my 2007 f150 due th the right rear fender wheel starting to rot out at 63000, I vowed to try the Krown treatment to try and protect it against the upstate NY roads on my 2013. The 2013 was built 9/13, purchased 10/13 and the Krowned on 11/01/13. Before Krown the driveshafts were rusted. One year later...the is some corrosion on the engine skid plate/air deflector but no where else. It is sickening to see the op's truck in that condition.

Fair enough, so you know what its all about then. That's definitely weird for down there but I would still look into getting it done, considering the condition of the truck. I would say it looks like it is needed lol Hopefully it all works out

My '13 has some rust on it too. My body mounts aren't nearly that bad, but my front suspension parts looked like they'd been under the ocean for ten years. Granted, I got the truck from up north, but I was surprised at how bad it got in only one year. I'm also in Florida, and my old 2000 F-150 never had a single spec of rust on it anywhere. This one has it on the front suspension and the rear leaf spring shackles. The front driveshaft is also pretty bad, but luckily my rear driveshaft is aluminum, so no rust there. I've been told it's normal. Maybe Ford just got lazy with coating or painting underbody parts with this generation. I actually decided to do something about it a few months ago. Here's a write-up I did on another forum about it:

under my 14 its clean as a whistle with the exception of the drive shafts..and believe it or not that light surface coating actually helps protects the metal

now in OPs situation that is far far worse and not acceptable by any means

Get a case of the Weathershed spray cans for about $80 delivered. Outstanding stuff.

Heh....Good Ole Cosmoline!

That's the slop most of the original WWII rifles and real deal AK47's are packed/preserved in. Prepare for the mess if you ever buy one and crack open the wood crate yourself

***** certainly does work though. I've never seen this spray on version of it before.

1 yes the rust seems WAY excessive and youre right to do something about it, the dealership sprayed it with oil

2 comsoline is great stuff and what they use to packages stuff like rotors while they sit on the shelf to prevent rust like eekoboost said i would vouch for fluid film to be put on it, never the paint type preventative

3 why are you complaining about the way your rust was handle by the dealership, rust preventative should have been put on prior to this happening to prevent it, and your complaining about putting it on now? im sure they used something like fluid film on the rust, which is what i had my truck sprayed with, were you expecting them to grind it all off or something?
