Default Anyone ever replace a 2012 ecoboost engine with a non-Ford engine ???

I like my F150, but it's already had the engine replaced once under warranty, & now the 2nd one is beginning to have the dreaded shudder issue. I had the plug, sleeve, & coil replaced in the cylinder that was misfiring & it did not improve anything. And, since the 2nd engine is no longer under warranty I finally drilled a weep hole. It dripped for 2 solid days, but I am still not seeing any improvement. I really don't know if I want to spend the money on another ecoboost engine that will have the same problems. Any suggestions?

Time for an LS swap. The software will be tricky but I think doable. GM makes standalone ECUs.

Or just buy a 5.0 F150.

Both those engines must have been abused. Not one single issue with mine. Only shuddering mine has is going under 1 mph backing up but that is normal for these transmissions.

I’ve had a shudder since new at idle. It shakes the truck to the point where it will start to make you I’ll over time. This thing has never idled smoothly. There was a short period after I drilled a weep hole and swapped plugs where it would idle smooth. I’ve also noticed though if I take it out of gear at a stop light it will smooth out.

I wouldn't try to build a hybrid - if you are worried about the eco, just get a non-eco truck.

You've had some bad luck - as FORD makes gobs of 3.5's and the vast majority of them hold up fine.

Nah, the first one had a timing belt that was getting chewed up for some reason & the shavings were getting inside the engine. And, the problem I am having now is a well known issue with this engine that Ford has never properly addressed.
