Any way to open hood from outside?

I was honestly surprised my stx had it. I guess the little things are becoming more standard. Very happy with my stx has power Bluetooth and an alarm. Adding leather and flow through console for under 1000 and I have a fx4 as I see it for a huge amount of savings!
In order to protect my truck. What would a thief do to disable the alarm as fast as possible if they flipped this latch and the alarm goes off.

^^^^^yup had that happen when my truck was new. Always looking under hood, and one day cable came off the latch. Glad my grille is pretty open and reached it with long screw driver.
Like most anti theft devices, makes it harder for thieves but also makes it a pain for you.

Here is an issue I see with the factory alarm. A person pops the hood open, and then disconnects the horn. Only thing that happens now is the parking, and tail lights flashing. No sounding alarm. Then move to the driver door, and punch out the lock cylinder gaining access to the cab. So I guess a cover for the hood latch would lessen the potential for the above scenario to happen.
I understand the concept of the alarm is to deter, and slow thieves down. Remember that nothing will stop a determined thief. If they want it bad enough. They'll get it.

Couldn't they Just pop the hood and cut the battery wire with a pair of heavy duty lock cutters or something similar and kill the lights and horn all at once?

The truth of this matter,,,, simple!! Here is the facts,,, currently the newest rip off going on is people standing out in parking lots waiting for you to lock your doors with your remote! once you do you head into the store. but what you don't know is that they have a unit that picks up that code and as soon as you walk in the store to get a coffee they have your truck opened and all the contents are gone! Next they have a remote generator,,, they can stand by your truck and run the generator until they hit your code! Once they hear it unlock it is over..... So what is the best thing to do,,,, well in the first example,,, lock your doors without using the remote,, if you can,,,, for the rest hope you don't run into the guys that want to get into your truck! The good news????? years ago they destroyed your truck getting into it and wrecked you dash taking the radio! Today you don't know they were in it until you see things missing!

And Yes Yuke,, it would take a couple seconds to disable the system by cutting either cable! Now, if you really wanted to stop them from getting into the engine compartment, you could buy a set of locking hood pins! They might even look pretty good but I haven't seen anyone with them. I am putting a set on my Mustang not to prevent theft but to make sure it holds the hood down. I have a set now but want to go with the locking ones because they have a flush fit and no cables!
BTW I wonder if you were to take the hood cable and twist it a couple of times even with the plate you are planning to add if it wouldn't still open the hood..... I have done this before to get into a customers car and couldn't get to the latch. I took a long pair of needle nose and grabbed the cable and started twisting it until the hood popped!

I dunno man. If I lived my life with that kind of paranoia all the time I'd go insane. I lock my doors with my remote and if someone wants my truck or what's in it, they'll take it either way, I can't (and won't try to) stop them.. That's why I never keep anything valuable in the truck when I know I'm leaving it all day. The truck is just a truck, it can be replaced. Is it good to use precautionary measures to make sure it stays safe? Yes, but it is what it is. Just look how easy it is for a thief to open my hood and snag a free ecoboost block or a set of projector retrofits..

So what are they gaining buy popping the hood? If they pop the hood and cut a battery cable to stop the alarm, what exactly are they going to do with a truck with no battery? Are you saying they can then break into the cab? Seems like a lot of work when they can simply get to the cab within seconds regardless of alarms or lock covers.
