I've read it was 2011 models and earlier. Not positive its right though. I have had no issues thus far, and I used it a lot this winter.

Default Had my window go as well...

Woke up the other day and noticed mine was shattered as I backed out of the driveway. I looked and saw no hole in the glass, a rock or anything in the bed, so I knew it was a defect of some sort. Mine was also the driver's side on the rear slider window. Called my insurance agent and found that it was covered at no charge like the windshield would be. The glass company did it in a day and left a copy of the invoice in the truck - $727.00!

I have a 2012 Fx4 and it just happened to me yesterday morning driving to work when I put the defroster on. There was actually a "hissing" sound kind of like slowly letting out pressure from a can of pop. It kept hissing when I was searching around when it just sounded like it reached a really high pitched sound than "POP" the rear window just shattered. The one thing I do notice is all the pictures that show these windows show some orange fluid coming from the bottom of the window. Of course nobody wants to touch this issue with me as I have 73,000 km on my truck and they say "never heard of it, and your over your 60,000 km warranty (even though I still have extended premium care warranty). I do have one dealer that says they do know about the issue but FORD will not help them cover any warranty issues???????

I am concerned because I have a rear facing child seat that faces the grenade itself and if I get a new window how do I know it won't happen again. This has been the worst experience I have ever had with dealing with a motor company.

2011 Lariat Supercrew. Passenger side rear window shattered. Local dealer said to claim on my insurance - glass not covered under warranty. Called Ford customer service and they gave me a case # and told me to contact the dealer again at a specific time of day and give them the case #. Dealer called me back in about 3 days, Ford replaced the window through my local dealer no charge. You have to stay on their ---.
Would have been 750.00 or so out of pocket.

I had this happen a couple years ago on my '11 SuperCrew I thought I'd bottomed out or something to cause the problem. Someone in the parking lot where I was said it sounded like a gunshot. That was the only funny part of the entire deal. Was a 900 repair, insurance got the cost down to 450 but that was all out of pocket.

Just saw this post here. Never even crossed my mind that it could have been a defect of some kind.

Check out my experience that I posted in this thread.

https://www.f150forum.com/f38/explod...45329/index29/

This is a known issue and its up to the dealer to make sure that they submit the claim appropriately. This is a known issue. My dealer wouldn't get into specifics, but based on they handled my situation, there is a specific pattern that they are looking for.

My guess is that they are trying to avoid people who have broken their glass and then claiming it under warranty. Given that these are pickup trucks, I'm sue it often happens with shifting cargo.

The specific pattern is evidence of a hot spelt which presents itself as burn residue and melted trim with the glass shatter originating from that point. Based on the pictures in this thread it looks consistent with what I had and my dealer was able to get it covered under the extended warranty minus the $100 deductible.

Our truck is a 2010 that had 44K miles when it occurred last December. Obviously out of the factory warranty but still under extended warranty coverage.

Dealers who are dismissing it and saying it's not covered are being lazy. Find a deal that will take the time to take the pictures and submit them to Ford.

On a side note, there is always this debate on whether extended warranties are worth it. Well I definitely got my money's worth on mine. In a little over a year of ownership I've had the following issues repaired:

Cam phasers - Actually happened two days after I took it home and it was really covered under the CPO coverage.

Driver's side blend door actuator failed - required removing the entire dash and center console to replace a $35 part. Total cost of the repair would have been over $1,400

Rear glass replaced due to the topic of this thread. Cost would have been. Over $700, unless I had my insurance company cover it, but then I would have had to make a claim.
