Any love for 5.4

Interesting chart.... can't say I know exactly everything to be read here but it does look like the 5.4 has the smoothest torque profile of all the engines with better results at low rpms. Maybe all these guys raving about the 5.0 and EB are just feeling that little torque peak shown and getting a little overly excited from it. lol.
The 6.2L has enough torque as not to be a concern, so it can have a less than flat torque curve, and still get the job done. I just wonder if the V10 that it replaced, had a flatter torque curve more suited to hauling and towing though. Also it looks like the 6.2L for the Super duty is tuned better for torque, sacrificing some of the peaky horsepower. It's has 2 ratings, 385 horsepower for under 10K GVWR and 316 horsepower for over 10K GVWRs compared to the F150s 411 horsepower. The F150 6.2L does have a pretty decent torque curve if you just take away that '1' peak where it has the max torque. This, IMO, is an artificial max torque as the average is far lower. The 5.0L curve though is not flat anywhere as it's just a steep ramp up and ramp down.

Interesting chart. First off i have never owned a 5.4 however my parents had 98, 01, 04, and 05 navigators that were all great trucks. So i am familiar with the 5.4. I love the 5.4 and have no complaints really. It could be a little peppier but the 6 speed helped its case.
I drove a 2008 F150 configured like mine and it didn't have near the power that my truck had. That was just due to the transmission as that was the only difference! I was amazed by how much power that 4 speed sucked out of the 5.4L 3V. Just amazing how Ford did themselves such a dis-service by putting an obsolete 4 speed auto in their 'best selling' truck.

This thread was for 2009 and 2010 5.4s the cam phazer and spark plug issues had been fixed by then. 5.4 is a good torque motor and has a history so we know what to expect reliability wise. The 5.0 and EB are new designs so we really don't know if they will be reliable, it will take several years to know that.
Then again, this is a 'positive' thread about our drivetrain. The 5.0L fan club trash on our 2009/2010 5.4L enough.
It's nice to see people come out in support of the "old, unpopular engine".

In 2012/2013 those issues should be a thing of the past.

I'm not going to Mario Andretti it all up out there so this 5.4 is all I will ever need. I've got 2 kids that I haul around most of the time so it does the job in fine fashion. Love the torque off the line and I am getting about 16mpg in the city and over 19 on the highway! And I haven't even looked into a programmer yet!
