Interesting. My FX2 doesn't have it so this is a really recent change. My FX2's sticker says it was built in January 2010.

Default 2010 Job 1 vs. 2010 Job 2

Okay, I have been a reader of this forum for a month now learning about the 2010 F-150 which I special ordered a few weeks back and hope to take delivery next week. Because I have some good knowledge to add on this thread, I just now registered as a member to this forum. (In case anyone is interested, I have a fully loaded KR Royal Red Metallic on the way which I was able to purchase for >$10k under MSRP from a great dealer here in MN, Apple Valley Ford--highly recommend them (so far).)

As far as this WTF object in this thread, I can say with confidence that some of you posters have already provided the answer. This is a relocation of the SYNC microphone from the rear view mirror to the "WTF is this object". Now, to shed some more light on this, during the model year I learned that Ford builds Job 1 and then Job 2. "Job 1" are the early model year trucks, and "Job 2" are late in the model year trucks having some minor design changes or TSB's already applied to them before they come off the assembly line.

Before I special ordered my KR, there was a dealer that had 3 KR on the lot. I have a strong eye for detail, and noticed one of the trucks had the microphone in the mirror only, and the build date on that truck was 11/19/09--which I came to learn was a "Job 1" truck. The other two KR had build dates in 3/10 and had the microphone in the "WTF is this object" location--"Job 2" trucks. What got me looking so hard for differences in those trucks was that the "Job 1" truck was $665 less on the window sticker Standard Vehicle Price (the top number on the sticker. At first, I wanted to buy it immediately for the savings, but I just had to figure out why the $ difference--Job 1 vs. Job 2. I am hoping that the Job 2 I have on order will have other TSB's applied that have come up from the 2009 or 2010 Job 1 user experiences.

Once I learned there were Job 1 and Job 2 trucks, my brain would not let me do anything but special order a new Job 2 truck with all the options I want to have. I did not look if the Job 2 trucks still have the microphone in the mirror, but I suppose that's quite possible if Ford had tons of those mirrors stocked.

Hopefully this post will help everyone grasp the already provided several correct answers to this thread.

Enjoy your F-150's! I am getting really excited to take delivery on mine as that day draws near. (Driving a 2002 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 TRD Off Road package double cab right now, and the 2010 Tundra 4x4 Crewmax TRD Limited/Platinum rides really rough compared to the KR with 18" wheels; and, with the current economy I decided to do the right thing and keep the profits in this country.)

Extra note: kydsid, your truck built in January 2010 seems to be a "Job 1" truck. I am not sure of the exact date that Ford started building "Job 2" trucks, but it would seem to be after your build date in January. Out of curiousity, what day in January is your build date? Anyone else have build dates between January and March with the microphone relocation to dial in when Ford started building "Job 2"?
