keeping up with the popular "WTF is this" message threads, I was looking at some 2010 trucks online and I saw this picture of the overhead console and headliner. What is that rectangular vent looking thing in the headliner? My 09 does not have this but I also have a moonroof and Navigation.

oh wait, is this the microphone for the SYNC for those with standard radios???

I have no idea. My 2010 Lariat with Sync, Sony, etc does not have this. Here's a pic of the same area on mine...

Yea, my FX4 2010 doesn't have it either. I have a sunroof too.

Could it be a vent (Heating/AC) maybe...

^not sure about that because there is also that vent on the dash to the right of the steering column that's a temp sensor for those with the auto climate control.

Well, it is funny you mentioned this......I was at the dealership this past Tuesday getting an oil change and they had 2010 a XLT-XTR which was almost identical to my 2010 XLT-XTR. I noticed that on the headliner and questioned the salesman about what it was and he was clueless.

I at first thought it must be the new microphone for the hands free Sync system; however, I noticed the mirror still had the microphone built into it?

Anyone know??

I can add in that i also have a 2010 XLT w/ sync and do NOT have that up there...

I should mention that I found that picture from a 2010 FX2 model. The same dealer has 2 FX2 trucks listed for sale and they purposely took a picture of that thing in both auctions:

My guess it's a rolling change for the Sync microphone location.

Could it be a motion sensor for the alarm system? I know the mustangs have a similar setup by the map lights.
