I have never run a "P" rated tire on any of my trucks before. Currently am going to swap out the crap pirellis on my truck and don't know how a P rated Toyo AT2 is going to ride. Is it mushy in turns? I've also never had larger than 18" wheels on my trucks, and now have 20" KR wheels. I really would prefer to go with the D rated BFG AT/KO2 in stock size, but I am wondering how much my gas mileage will suffer. Truck is on road most of the time, but I need the ability to go through mud and lots of snow here in the NE. Worth going with the D load? Will the ride be better? Thanks.

 

D load will handle towing better then P rated and have a slightly stiffer ride. If you do lose 1/2 a mpg or so as they are heavier and more aggressive. To me being from Mn I'm going with the ko2 as they have snowflake rating either is a good tire

 

i just put the toyo's on a few weeks ago. i went up one size to 275/60/20's and so far am very happy. they ride great way better in the wet then the scrorpions. they don't feel mushy in the turns, And no more road noise then stock. and i haven't noticed any decline in mpg's.

 

I just leveled mine and put on 275 65 20 Duratrac's. Even being a 10 ply, they ride better than the Scorpions. And I mean noticeably. I assume the added height on the sidewall. I haven't noticed any real ill effects at all. Power is still strong.

 

I have E rated KO2's on mine and I am very happy with them. The truck handles great.

 

I'd look into Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac's. They're great in the mud and snow. Love mine.

 

I've got P275/55R20 Duratracs. So far they're great. I thought the ride was a bit rougher when the psi was pumped up to 45 so I reduced them to 35 and they feel better. But I'm realizing that they didn't properly balance all of my wheels so that may have been the cause. At city speeds they are very comfortable but never feel mushy. Great wet handling and also snow rated.

 

Yeah I had the Toyos in a 6 ply on my FX4. They were decent last winter, and the ride didn't change much since I switched from 6 ply Goodyear ATS. the BFG are about 8lbs heavier than the Toyos in a P rating. I think it might be worth the mpg loss. I've run the original AT/KO on nearly all my trucks except for the FX4. Now with the king ranch, I think I will go back since they make them with the snowflake rating and in a D load instead of an E.

 

The BFG and Toyo are both good tires. The BFG has the edge in rain/snow driving.

Why are you considering "D" rated tires? Unless you frequently carry heavy loads, P tires will be adequate and smoother to drive.
