Also when I had a rental 2012 Lincoln mkz for a few weeks the fuel gauge on it did the same thing one time but then returned to normal. I'm not saying that this happening is a good thing but at the same time it's not something I would ever lose sleep over. I'm sure someone here remembers the old ford fuel gauges that would stay at full for 200 miles then decide to drop like a rock
Really appreciate the feedback. Maybe this is normal? Any advice whether I should take it in or just let it be?

Thanks,

Chris

If its working right when you take it in, i think it'll be a waste of time taking it. They'll say it's working normally...and they'll be right. I kinda doubt they'll delve into it much further than that.

Here's my latest issue! I filled up my truck to a half tank yesterday which put my needle at half, and digital readout at 260 miles until empty. The next day I hopped in my truck only to notice my needle sitting at a quarter tank and my digital readout now reading 180 miles until empty. I drove for around ten minutes before sitting at a stop light only to watch the needle literally rise from a quarter tank to a half tank in front of my eyes. The digital readout never changed. I got to my destination just down the road and parked and shut the truck off. An hour later I hopped in and started the truck only to be at a half tank and 254 miles until empty. Normal now. I was so confused by this and had called up a friend of mine who is a mechanic and even he seemed a little thrown off.

This isn't the first time I've noticed this as I'd posted something about it on here before which I got feedback that it could be normal. Anyone know what this issue is and what kind of repairing or replacement needs to be made? Sorry if this comes off as a foolish question.

Thanks in advance,

Chris
Try disconnecting the Negative battery terminal and this will reset the CALC settings on the readout this is not the same as just holding the reset button. See if that helps it should change the collaboration immediately back to normal readings and then drive around and see what you get. Note: As you probably already know this will reset your phone, Nav, and other preset options.

BTW - This does not come off as a foolish question. It's only foolish when you don't ask questions. That's what the Forum's are for share info and ask ?'s. I hope my suggestion helps your issue at hand. If you do try please update us on the results.

Mine does the same thing. Kinda pisses me off, but If it gets low, I fill it.

Honestly I wouldn't even bother. Unless its all over the place every time you get in the truck. They would need you to replicate it and we all know how that goes. I always reset my B trip meter when I get gas and I know approximately how far I should go per tank just in case the fuel gauge is off. Safe rule of thumb is if its near a quarter tank you should just fill it back up.

Well, mine just started doing the same exact thing. 2010 5.4 with 42,000 miles. Been watching it go back up slowly over the past 30i mins. However my miles to empty is adjusting as well. Using my trip odometer to keep track of fuel.

Actually looks like it is stopping on 5/8 of a tank. Travel too much to just "deal" with this.
