Default Another problem..

Howdy all,

I've owned my 2012 F-150 for over a year now. I've got 13,000 miles on it. I am extremely happy with my purchase and my F-150 has met my demands for what I need in a truck. However, my 13,000 miles have not exactly been problem free.

Here's my latest issue! I filled up my truck to a half tank yesterday which put my needle at half, and digital readout at 260 miles until empty. The next day I hopped in my truck only to notice my needle sitting at a quarter tank and my digital readout now reading 180 miles until empty. I drove for around ten minutes before sitting at a stop light only to watch the needle literally rise from a quarter tank to a half tank in front of my eyes. The digital readout never changed. I got to my destination just down the road and parked and shut the truck off. An hour later I hopped in and started the truck only to be at a half tank and 254 miles until empty. Normal now. I was so confused by this and had called up a friend of mine who is a mechanic and even he seemed a little thrown off.

This isn't the first time I've noticed this as I'd posted something about it on here before which I got feedback that it could be normal. Anyone know what this issue is and what kind of repairing or replacement needs to be made? Sorry if this comes off as a foolish question.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

I had an F350 that had an EXTREMELY slow fuel gauge, if I didn't turn it off when I filled up it wouldn't be right till the next day. Or if I parked on an incline it would take forever to level back out. I imagine the F150's could operate the same way, I haven't really noticed anything like that with mine, but I ALWAYS shut it off when filling up & have flat places to park. Don't know if it helps you any.

Reread it.
He only filled to half tank. I think anyway. And I'm going with parking on an incline too.

I appreciate the input. I always park on level surfaces and shut it off when gassing up as well.

Thanks again,

Chris

I've had my fuel gauge not read accurate once or twice but next time I got in it was fine. I have noticed though if your at a half tank or less its more sensitive to even slight hills. I'm usually parked on mostly flat ground so I don't notice it often but I've def had it happen. Also when I had a rental 2012 Lincoln mkz for a few weeks the fuel gauge on it did the same thing one time but then returned to normal. I'm not saying that this happening is a good thing but at the same time it's not something I would ever lose sleep over. I'm sure someone here remembers the old ford fuel gauges that would stay at full for 200 miles then decide to drop like a rock
