Default Another coolant change/flush opinion thread

2014 5.0 Screw at 100k mark.

I bought the truck new and it had a service plan. I’m ashamed to admit I agreed to and paid for coolant flushes at the stealership at 60k and 80k (7/2019). At the time I was too stupid to look up Fords recommended maintenance sked to see they don’t recommend coolant flush until 100k.

I’m now planning on doing my own maintenance on this truck again. Going to tear it apart this week for oil change, new plugs, and a full brake job (going with new upgraded rotors and pads).

Looking for opinions if I should go ahead and flush coolant now at 100k, or wait for another mileage interval (or date, July being 3 years)?

Also if there’s anything else you guys think I should do at 100k I’m all ears. I ordered a full Bilstein 5100 kit but they’re back ordered at least a month, so will do those when they get in.

I would change it, I have changed mine 2 times already and its got 130K on it. I tend to believe that keeping the AF clean, keeps the system, engine and radiator cleaner. JMI Its cheap preventative measure.

With only 20k on the coolant I’d just wait closer to the next maintenance interval. If you are familiar with multimeters Google how to test coolant with a volt meter for peace of mind.

At 100k & 6-7 years might flush the brake fluid along with the brake job if planning to keep the truck long term.

Might as well just knock out the water pump and Y-pipe while you're at it. If you're at 100k on a 5.0, you're on borrowed time.

Yep mine is sitting waiting in the garage! Santa brought me a new battery operated brushless ratchet wrench! Now for some decent weather!

Is there any symptoms to check for a on a water pump that’s on its way out?

my 2014 5.0 has 140k on it. Are these difficult to change out? I’ve done a coolant flush on it, Changed the y pipe gasket, and thermostat.

I did a water pump on my old 2002 3.0 ranger and walked away promising myself to never do another water pump change. It was a complete PITA.

Noise or wobble I would imagine.

You're on the every three years or 50k now (whichever comes first) So yes, drop the coolant per the book and refill with yellow.

my 2012, 3.7v6 recently crossed the 100k miles mark. i did several service items, including

the rear axle fluid change, and trans pan drop fluid/filter change, if never been done.

Appreciate all the input. Will go ahead and do the coolant flush.

im going to inspect the y pipe when I go to work on the truck tomorrow. I haven’t noticed any leaks under the truck yet and certainly no whining/wobble from water pump yet.

Watched some YouTube’s on the water pump replacement and it seems doable, but definitely a PITA. Not sure I want to bite that off on my own at this point. I will start keeping a closer eye on it for any funky noises.
