Default Ambient Lighting Power Source Question

I'm getting ready to install an ambient lighting kit and was wondering if anyone has any tips.

I'm going to tap into the fuse box hoping that they will come on when I turn the headlights on. Do I just tap into the headlight fuse in the passenger side fuse box?

Also looking for good mounting options if anybody has them. Under the passenger side footwell area there really isn't anything good to stick these to, just a bunch of carpet like surface. I was thinking I could maybe just mount them with screws there.

I wouldn't suggest wiring them to come on with the headlights, rather you should use a switch, you don't want to be in a situation where you want them off and still have your headlights on. For mounting I usually always use tie wraps, if necessary I will drill small holes in the plastic under the dash,

I'll be able to turn them off and on with a remote that came with them but wanted to set the default to "on" when I switch the headlights on. Maybe parking lights?

Depending on they type of light, i.e. LED or incandescent, will determine where I would tell you to hook them up and how. Is it a kit, or something that was pieced together?

I see, I don't know what lights you have, I still don't recommend triggering them to come on with the headlights, but that's up to you.
If I'm not mistaken the fuses are always hot when the car is on, you would need to tap into the correct wire for your source, in which case I would also use a relay

Some circuits don't provide enough power to activate a relay, A lot of circuits are pulse width modulated.

It's a kit and says to tap into the fuse box for power but doesn't say which one. I'd only be tapping in to get power to them. I'd be able to turn them off and on with the remote that it came with.

yes I'm aware, but the 12v headlight line does have sufficient power to activate a relay

Ok in that case I suggest using the "delayed accessory" fuse, check your manual for the fuse location (passenger side interior fuse panel)

Awesome. Will do. Will this fuse provide constant power while the truck is on?

Read this thread... you want them to come on when your dome lights come on as your getting in your truck and turn off when you exit your truck after turning off your ignition when you open your door-..
