Default Air Compressor Install

Recently moved my Viar HD air compressor from a box under my toolbox to the passenger side frame rail. I used some aluminum stock and 12" galvanized bolts to fashion a hanger. I ran air to the license plate for general purpose. Also, I ran a line up front to my air horn () and put a gauge in the cab.

Overall, I'm very happy with this setup. When I buy something larger than a small fishing boat I'll split the rear air line out to helper bags.

Lessons learned:
  • Use DOT airline and nothing else. I had PE lines blow out constantly before switching.
  • Brass fittings work fine, but the plastic quick connects they sell at Lowe's work SO MUCH BETTER. I'm kicking myself fussing around with the brass fittings for so long.
  • Mount your tank in a way where the draincock can be easily acessed. Otherwise, your tank will rust out and fail.

(don't worry, I swapped that safety release for the draincock on top that you can't see :P. This was a mid-install pic)

1. where did you get the gauge.

2. how is the gauge wired. is there a plug with a wire on the compressor and you ran the wire to the gauge? or is the compressor plumbed to the gauge?

3. where did you mount your horn?

Nice setup. Thanks for sharing with us. I have a friend wanting to do the same, you have given me some great insight on where I believe is the best spot to mount the tank. Thanks again.

More pics to answer questions. The gauge came with my Viar kit. I plumbed air to it, which wasn't too hard as I already had a access hole. I just teed off of the line going to the horn. Added a more finished pic showing the compressor. Sorry the pics are kinda crappy, I don't have a lift so it's difficult to get a good angle.

You can see the PE airline in this pic before I changed it. Don't use that junk. Get DOT line.

Week or so in and it's holding air better. I need it to drain down every week or so anyways to let the moisture out...so I'm pleased.

You should get an inline air dryer to help with moister.
