Default adding ford built-in backup camera

I will be putting putting an audio system in my truck after Christmas including all new speakers, amps, and head unit.

Does anyone know if I can replace my FORD oval with one of the ones that has the backup camera in it? I know that the Pioneer head units will work with various types of camera so this seems like a smart idea when I'm replacing everything else.

You can but you will need to cut into harness and splice it with a regular RCA video cable and run that to your head unit.

I'm confident that I can do that, but is the tailgate prewired already or do I have to run my own wires?

Follow the instructions in either of the two links provided below:

http://www.f150online.com/forums/mul...m-04-08-a.html
Or
http://www.f150online.com/forums/200...blem-done.html

The connections are the exact same, whether its for a 04-08 or 09-12 f150.

You'll need the camera and emblem. Cut off the connector on the camera. Splice an RCA cable for the + and -, for the 12V power (red) tap into either Reverse wire in your taillight(To have the camera come on when in reverse) or tap into the 7pin trailer harness for constant power (If you want to view the camera while driving, black goes to ground in the trailer harness. You will have to run the RCA cable along your frame and through a grommet (For a screw theres one at your rear door under the kickplate).

There ya go, he has the info I couldn't find.

I was going to do this but when researching I found so many better cameras that were cheaper. Now they won't look as nice as the stock but I barely notice my license plate mount one and it has a better field of view, is adjustable, has night vision and required no wire splicing as it already was wired with the RCA end, just hooked up to power and ground and ran RCA to unit through loom along frame rail on drivers side. I did not wire it up to come on in reverse as I only use it so often and on my unit I push a button and the camera comes up, helpful when going down the raod with a load.

What type of camera did you install? Any pictures available of the view?

http://www.tadibrothers.com/Products/View/SKU29203

This is the one, it is 120 degree view. It is mounted lower than the stock one and the lens can be adjusted up or down. I have mine adjusted down just enough to see my ball for backing to a trailer, this give's me a long and wide view to the rear also for backing purposes.

It does not have the back up lines like stock but not sure if those are built into the camera or the unit, either way I don't need them as my receiver ball is the thing that sticks out the farthest so if I am close with that I am clear everywhere else.

Thanks for the website. Question though... what and where do you have it hooked upto for a display? The website only shows the camera.

I have a Kenwood DDX 616 head unit with a 6.1" screen.

If you go to the site, they have LCD screens you can buy with the cameras as a package deal. i have run my camera for awhile now through all kinds of conditions and it is working great.

Don't get me wrong, I may have gone with the stock one had I not been so lazy! lol

When I bought my 2011 XLT, I had all my A/V equipment left over from my previous truck. Pioneer Z130 nav unit with BC4 rear view camera. Since the camera was only a few months old, I did not want to go through the expense of buying another camera and try to get it to work with the head unit. The BC4 camera is very small, but will never work with the Ford emblem housing. For a solution, I used the tailgate handle off a 2007 F150. In 07, the tailgate handle had the rearview camera mounted inside it and with a little work with my Dremel tool, the BC4 camera fit perfect. The 07 handle is a direct bolt-in swap for the 2011. I will get some pics up later.
