I wasn't trying to be a smart *** at all. I was merely making a valid point. Yes, you lose any running applications, but you certainly don't lose anything from the hard drive when you lose power.

My 2011 FX4 5.0 Started shifting wayyyyy smoother on the 1-2 shift around 2500 miles. The 1-2 shift was really making me aggravated since it made the whole truck "jump" into gear. I've got about 2800 on it now, and am way more pleased with the shifting.

Cant tell if it is from the warmer weather or not however. Guess we'll find out come winter time again

Adaptive strategy vs break in.

Adaptive strategy does exist and it can be reset by disconnecting the battery. Once the battery is connected it starts all over. The vehicle will collect data to your habits and try to maximize efficiency.

Break in. Every friction part in a new vehicle takes some time to 'break in'. Once these parts wear a little bit they begin moving more smoothly.

In 1100 miles my truck no longer has a nervous breakdown while backing out of the garage, previously it would shudder like mad.

Is it one, the other or a combo of both?

Not entirely true, takes a little bit more than that. I specifically asked this to the engineer I rode with. I was pleased how my truck was shifting and how the MPG jumped back to normal after they reflashed it and the transmission was "learning" again. I asked if it started to shift poorly again if simply removing the battery cable would erase the memory and start the process over again. He said that would not be the case, there is a KAM (Keep Alive Memory) and it involves a lot more than simply removing the battery cable to reset the learning strategy. The dealer rep. that was with me said they would be more than happy to do it for me, but that would involve making an appt. and dropping it off, etc...

Anyways, thats what the engineer told me. He also told me my truck shudder is normal, so take it for what its wroth.
