Last week my wife said her AC just stopped working, but by the time I called her back it had resumed normal operation so I chalked it up to something weird and didn't give it another thought. Well today it did the same thing. She used the autostart and when we go get into the truck to leave I noticed no AC. So I pulled the truck out of the garage and turned it off. Restarted and still no AC. As I drove it down the road it just kicked on. Weird thing is it only stayed on for about 30 seconds then kicked off. Over the next 10 miles it stopped and started about three times. I have no idea where to begin. The AC looks like it's on just not blowing. Side note. About 2 years ago a piece broke off and fell into the blower fan (squirrel cage) and after I removed the foreign piece of plastic everything went back to normal operations. Any suggestions?

 

You might have better luck getting an answer if you would at least post what it is your driving. Year/make/model/trim level/engine etc.....

My appoligies. I am referring to a 2013 Ford F150 Lariat.

 

Mine did this the other day but hasn't done it since. I believe it is the blower motor that needs to be replaced. I think there is also a blower motor resister that could also be the culprit. Perhaps replace the resister first, see it if solves the problem and if not, the blower motor. There are videos on how to replace, not very complicated.

May check to make sure these fit your year - mine is 2013 and these are what I plan on buying once it becomes a real problem.

so the blower fan stopped, not the AC system (compressor) itself? If it's the blower are there lights on the panel or did it lose power as well? Not enough info still to have guys help you. Plenty of basic troubleshooting techniques that you can do though (i.e. when its not working is the blower fan getting power?)

 

Yes it's just the blower fan that stops. No warning light appears on the cluster. In fact while traveling at highway speeds you can still feel cold air at the vents just not as powerful as when the blower is operating.

 

First thing i'd do is check for power at the blower fan when it stops, you'll need a mutli meter or test light. If there is power present at that connector then the motor has issues, no power then start with relays and then switch. It will also depend if you have automatic temp control or manual fan dial.

 

Does it not work on all fan speeds? Mine stopped on all speeds except 4 (high). I replaced the blower motor resistor and it fixed the problem. Took me all of 10 minutes, plus the time to go to the parts store.
