Mighty expensive trip. And no champane to drink on the way in.
When they fly in from Houston that is 4 counties away.
Not sure where this is going anymore...sorry for the deviation...but...

911 virtual number is based on a locally provided service and implemented at the city or county level telephone switch. When someone on a local phone dials 911, the call is routed to the local emergency number programmed at your local switchboard.

It was mandated that this local service be made available in telephone switches and paid for with a tax on your telephone bill. They are easy to route because it is always a local service and never leaves the local area.

Now when you're "off the grid" you need a back up plan. We use a satellite phone. Ours is with Globalstar. Theres a few different service providers, I think Iridium is another. One note, while we can call 911 with Sat Phone with Globalstar, the call is routed to a central station and they do not know where we are which is why it is wise to carry the coordinates and location of where you are or will be.

Sorry...way off track, I know.

Just because the Fire department hasn't been to your farm doesn't mean they don't go there.

I'm a Firefighter/EMT and we have maps and we use GPS so we can find the house,Megan without numbers on the house, 21st century tech to the rescue again!

Seen a lot of people carried out in a Ambulance and on a Helicopter that the sherieff called.
Never seen the closest police of fire department nowhere near here.

The fire department is Volunteer.

This! It's actually better to call 911, they will get units n the way while you're talking to them! It's way faster than calling the sheriff and then they hang up and try to relay the info.

With 911 your info is sent to computers in fire trucks, ambulances, etc so they can see your address, how old you are, your symptoms, etc.

I realize you don't want her telling you about 911 but if I were where you are I would have it turned on as you would need it more there than n an urban setting!

Sounds like if you roll your truck and are stuck that you may not be found and could die! Instead you could use technology you paid for and have the truck call 911 for you incase of a wreck.

Appreciate the fact that there are so many people out there that would come and help in cause of an emergency.
My wife leaves on during the week and is gone all week.
Sure she worries about it sometimes.

She is younger than me..

Just a quick note about the "Helicopter"...

These are not just air ambulances. Or at least not in my part of the world. These are complete mobile intensive care units which fly in by airplane or helicopter...save your life, stabilize you, then fly you to the hospital.
