.
I overlooked your 1.7 mile commute. You're right, that is the biggest contributing factor.

Remote start brings mine down by 1.5 to 2.5 mpg.

I have nightmare scenario when using the truck as a commuter, 5 km commute, start at the bottom of long hill on both ends of the commute, live in Canada, etc. I think generously, just that commute alone was about 16.5 L/100km. Thankfully, being only a 5 km commute, I generally ride my bike to work. Living urban in a medium sized city, my lifetime is 13.8 L/100 over 25,000 km with an average of 10 start/stop per trip, which I think is pretty damn good for a V8. Better than my old Honda Odyssey did.

I like to give it some gas, but there's no way i'm more than a 5 out of 10 on the scale of things.

Sound normal to you?
Is this strictly city driving? Any highway in your daily commute? What gears do you have? 4x4 or 2x4?

Here's my story:

My daily round trip commute is 60miles and I live in Orange County CA.

The majority of my trip is highway, but around here that basically equates to city driving performance during rush hour (we barely move).

My trips to work and back are both 1hr 15min.

Truck: '12 5.0 XLT has 4x4 with 3.73 gears

I've consistently averaged 16.0 - 17.5 all 44K miles I've owned the truck and am really happy/impressed with that average. Keep in mind, when traffic let's up occasionally, I'm not easy on the throttle either.

I average 14-14.5, but I drive 2 miles to work. The speed limit is 25-35 the whole way, otherwise anywhere from 15-19 on the highway.
