Let me ask this. I have 65k miles on 5w20 changed every 5k and using synthetic oil each time. Usually Pennzoil Platinum. I do live in Houston and it gets hot AF. I've had no engine issues or odd noises. Would there be a benefit to switching to 5w30 now or is the "damage already done"?

It's doubtful that there's been any damage done, but if you want to know, get an oil analysis done by Blackstone Labs (or similar).

I'd consider it a benefit to switch.

Ford have gone from 5w20 back to 5w30 in the 6.2 in the HD trucks....and I wonder why.

Does ford still make the 6.2? So that is what is in the HD trucks.

The 6.2 was designed for the super duty and still powers it today. The switch back to 5w-30 happened when they stopped offering it in the F150. Super duties are exempt from CAFE standards.

Ding! There you go...Ford knows the 6.2 is best run on 5w30.

Im really starting to believe this is a corporate/government game for sure. It always comes down to Money that drives all corporate decisions as I have seen my own work place use this technique to please upper management visions but be of no benefit to us in the field, and we work harder, not smarter to do the same thing. In the end the cost over time is greater, but you have to satisfy the head above you, until next years budgets!

Made my decision and I ordered 4 5qt jugs of PUP 5w30. I also spoke to some shell reps too about this and from there tone this will be just fine. at 212* the 5 20 and 5 30 are the same viscosity. Also about every oil test data is based off a 30 weight from most of these companies, but they will post it on every technical data sheet with the reference to it with a astir mark

My F150 has 95,000 miles on 5w20 Ford synthetic blend .
On my next oil change I am going to switch to Castrol Edge
full synthetic 5W30 with 6 to 7 thousand mile changes.

I use Mobil 1 5w-20 full synthetic for every oil change with a motor craft oil filter and change every 5000 to 6000 miles
