4wd to 2wd swap
#11
I used the raptor because it's the only factory off road truck, it's not even a pre runner, those do need to be built. However most are built on a truck with 4wd, LIKE the raptor. Google brad derbeti, watch some vids or whatever you have to do, then tell me 2wd is better for a pre runner than 4wd. I don't know what kind of terrain you plan on tackling with a 2wd truck then call it a pre runner.

Thank you Scotty. I could always build it and not worry about front axles, technically having only 2wd. I was just curious if I could sell the front diff and transfer case to get a little cash for the build. 4wd is not a bad thing, just more expensive to build right and more to break when actually getting used.

If you want a measly 2 inches of travel just swap your suspension, arms, whatever, Icon has a bunch of top of the line stuff, because that will be cheaper than swapping I'm pretty sure. Then you're going to drop an insane amount of money on rubber because if you plan on tackling any serious snow sand or mud you're going to wish you had 4x4. Put a moderately built raptor for example with 4wd up against whatever other pre runner and I'm betting raptor will out perform in 4wd.
Yeah maybe it was. Never the less 4wd is better in sand, save money on the swap and just buy new suspension and decent tires so you don't have to spend an insane amount on tires and a large amount on the swap.

I want 20"+ in the front. Icon doesn't make anything to get me there. The fact your mention Icon when talking about long travel trucks, tells me you don't know much. You stick with your moderately built Raptor and I'll build a truck that will destroy it in the desert.

the baja kits i looked at for 09+ f150's had 1 inch of travel as the difference between 2wd and 4wd. and about $700 difference in price.
if this is just for fun then id stay 4wd all the way. its nice to have if you ever get stuck in a bad situation.
if you were truly competing in real races then i can understand the desire for a 2wd base. weight is important there.
but for a fun weekend hobby truck? 4wd all the way IMO.

Ok wow well let's just ramble on about all the brands that make suspension like King and Rancho bilstein fox camburg blah blah blah have I passed your veteran suspension brand test who cares my apologies for liking the set ups icon has to offer oh by the way I don't recall mentioning long travel in a single post and did you not state you wanted the outstanding 2" of travel that came with a 2wd? Man, get your story together.

Well out of all the brands you just stated only one makes a long travel setup. I didn't post this to start an argument with someone who has no idea what they are talking about.
What true prerunner doesn't have long travel? I stated that the 2wd kits have a minimum of 2" more travel than those for 4wd. Not that I wanted 2l of travel. Instead of getting my story together why not learn to read and not bother posting when you have no knowledge of the subject being discussed.
