Default 3:55 gears with 35"

I was wondering if the 3:55 gears are ok to tow with since I have 35" tall tires. Should I upgrade to 4:10 or 4:56?

tow what? Either way I dont see a problem with it. Id say it really depends on how it feels to you, if you are towing a ton of crap and often then Id probably consider the change. I havnt towed with my 35's yet but I havnt even considered it to be a future problem mainly because I dont plan on towing anything 5-6k lbs and very rarely, if ever. Sorry if this isnt what you were looking for lol.

I towed an enclosed trailer with my truck and with the 3.55 and 35's, automatically kept down shifting. A flatbed trailer shouldn't be nearly as bad. I did also lose some mileage on the hour drive. Hope that helps, I have the 5.0.

considering you need 3.73 gears to get max tow with stock 32" tires, and lose almost 2000lbs with 3.55 gears... I would say 35" tires are not helping your tow rating, or your transmission for that matter.

re-gearing, while pricey, will help you get your lost mileage back, and really help when towing, and again the tranny.

Though you are most likely correct (as in I havnt researched anything lol).... The thing to consider is how often you will tow, if it is rare then I wouldn't worry about.

if it were a truck I expected to drive for years to come, or possibly get bigger tires for in the future, I would still re-gear as soon as possible. Just to get some mileage and "pep" back.

granted it's not the same, but I drove my old Jeep Cherokee with 33" tires for a few months on stock 3.55 gears... and it wasn't enjoyable at all. I mean driving was fine, but it lost all the "pep" and mileage went down drastically (I only needed 4th gear on straight highways, uphill = downshift, even to 2nd) until I re-geared to 4.10 gears, and 4.56 would have been even better.

yes the truck will have loads more power, and you won't notice the difference that much, but the sooner you re-gear the sooner you'll start getting the few $$ back in mileage lost, and towing will be that much easier on the engine and tranny.
