Default 2014 E-brake cable

Wondering if anyone else has seen this issue. Dealership wants $500 for a new cable and shock.

I don't think I have such a problem after 180k, and I can't go look right now. I wonder if it's out of place somehow.

I would recommend replacing the shocks yourself. If you have the tools, which aren't many for this, it should take less than 1/2 hour. It's one of the simplest repairs you can do. 2 Bilstein 4600s are $170 on Amazon, could be cheaper elsewhere. And that would be a definite upgrade, as well.

Default Bilstein 4600

Just yesterday I put in a pair of Bilstein 4600 (rear) on my 2011. $170 from Amazon.

Hardest part was compressing the shock some to fit into the brackets, yet after 5 minutes of wrangling with that issue, done. Tip: Attach to bottom bracket, then do the top. Overall a really easy job.

Much improved ride.

Only slightly out of place. It's where it's supposed to be but rubbing - retaining ring may be bent a bit.

Also $500 is absolute BS - Here's your cable ($15): https://www.tascaparts.com/oem-parts...0wbC12OC1mbGV4

And yea, if you can pull the wheel off your truck you can change the shocks with a pair of wrenches in like an hour. Do it yourself and save $300.

Shock isn't horrible you've only really worn through the useless cover sleeve. Shock itself seems fine - but if you want to replace it don't replace just one. Do the pair.

Mine hasnt rubbed that bad at 190k KM

But after redoing my parking brake I will say that part that rubs can be slightly manipulated to not wear that hard.

The dealer is trying to fleece you also lol. I onced reported the slight rubbing to the dealer under warranty and they said its fine. I bet if I went there now out of warranty they would quote 500$ and say I need a new shock too lol (you dont need a new shock btw)

They are called Stealerships for a reason.

I agree with above posters.

Is the cable itself worn in two? If not, shoot some lube on it and let it ride. I would JB weld a piece of plastic over the hole in the shock cover just cause.

Im afraid to use my e-brake, these trucks are known for them sticking on.

any truck with e brake cables that use drum in hat design eventually stick if the lever isnt taken apart and never siezed

its just how it is

not using it just makes it sieze faster lol

Im surprised you are still around havent you hated your truck for like 5 years?

Ooh, maybe I should do that, then. I must be getting close to eventually.
