Hmm.. Well, I dropped the truck off last night and they worked on it today.. They said they were able to reproduce the noise, and followed the TSB for "CLICK/SNAP NOISE ON INITIAL ACCELERATION FROM A STOP BUILT ON 1/1/2011 ANDTHROUGH 4/1/2014"

Replaced the driveshaft seal and oil slinger. I looked at the TSB -- it specifically says its for a "single click or snap-type noise from rear axle on light acceleration after the initial engagement into drive or reverse". Its not a click.. Its a constant rubbing type noise on deceleration..

Have a feeling it will be back..

Just got back from picking up my truck at the dealer.. As I suspected, the TSB didn't fix the noise.. I drove right back and this time the tech came out for a ride with me and fortunately the noise was easily reproducible.. He had me pull over to the side of the road and then disconnected the vacuum line going to the IWE actuator and the noise disappeared... So they're ordering a new actuator and some other related parts, and in the interim he said its better that the vacuum line stays disconnected and the hub remains locked for now rather than it partially engaging and disengaging.

So, it goes back on the 21st when they can give me a loaner..

I have the exact same issue with my 2013 F-150 supercrew Lariat. It took me about 4 trips to the dealer before I could get it to happen when the technician was with me. They were very patient with me as I thought I was going nuts. The noise typically happened for me at slower speeds and turning right. Then once in 4WD the noise stops. As soon as I took it out of 4WD the noise would return. They replaced the IWE on the front drivers side last fall. The noise and vibrations went away through the winter. Until now that is. I just called to get another appointment because it is happening again. I don't know if the passenger IWE now went bad or not. I will let everyone know next week when it comes out of the shop.

Just to follow-up.... The dealer did replace the IWE actuator on the right side, which corrected the problem. I dropped the truck off when they opened at 7:30 AM and they called me at 10:30 to let me know it was done.

You can typically tell what side is affected by what wheel is having weight shifted on to it.. Right turns shift weight to the left, left turns shift it to the right.. And of course, braking shifts the weight forward -- so turning while braking or descending a hill is where you are most likely to be able to reproduce..

 

I had the exact problem, 2013 150 Lariat 4x4 Super-crew, I had to take it in 4 times and they ended up replacing both hubs with new IME actuators at 43,000 miles. The noise has gone away. I have picked up some tire howl after it is warmed up. That is bothersome since I replaced the Goodyear's with Michelins and it is not a very aggressive tread. I hope it is not related.

Mine is having some groaning noise coming to a stop. never any clicking but seems to be the same issue. The pickup is new to me, but Ive obtained service records and they have done the iwes twice before!

 

Just to follow up on mine...
I could finally recreate it, in cold weather, mainly when rolling up to a stop and turning my wheels to the right. That put weight on the front left which was the problem wheel. It was faint, but my dealer could hear enough and replaced the IWE even though all tests said it was fine. That made my truck quiet again, for a few months. Then the same wheel began making much louder noises while driving at speed. Dealer recreated the noise, pulled IWE and found it (the new replacement) to be broken. Dealer replaced both left and right IWEs to hopefully correct the problem for good. 2013, 5.0 screw, with 35,000 miles. All covered under warranty.

 

Here's another follow up on my IWE issue. After replacing the IWE 2 times as noted above, it began making the grinding and rattling noise again a couple thousand miles later, but only on longer drives and only during warm weather. I waited for warm temps this spring and just prior to my drivetrain warranty expiring to recreate the noise for the dealer. They noted the fully tested the vacuum system the last time they replaced the EWI, per Ford's latest procedures, and it tested "good". They test drove it and positively identified the IWE as bad, so they tore into it. Everything tested good again but the IWE was toast. They thought the hub/bearing had a "slight movement" and replaced that this time too. I'm back to a quiet ride, and I hope the bearing was the problem causing the EWI to break each time. I'm on my 4th driver's side IWE counting the original, but I can't complain since they've all been covered by the drivetrain warranty.
